The plans are for the Rovaniemi round of the WRC to be driven as a three-day event: the action starts on Friday 26 February with a shakedown in the morning. The first special stages of the rally proper will be driven on Friday evening and the competition continues on Saturday 27 February with three stages that will all be driven twice in and around the Rovaniemi area. The Arctic Rally Finland Powered by CapitalBox ends on Sunday 28 February with the rally- closing Power Stage taking place in the afternoon after ten special stages and the total distance of approximately 260 special stage kilometres. It’s the second visit of the season which began in January as Finland hosts two rounds this www.wheelswithinwales.uk year. Finland hosted not just one, but two FIA World Rally Championship events, when in addition to Jyväskylä, the best rally drivers in the world will also be competing against each other in the middle of the Arctic scenery of Rovaniemi in the Finnish Lapland. Extra special attention will be paid to the Coronavirus responsibility practices, and the organisers will strictly adhere to all the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the state, the local authorities as well as the FIA and there will not be any spectator stages but enthusiasts are being encouraged to listen and watch on line or on TV. -

2021 MEDIA GUIDE Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Given the freezing temperatures outside, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Arctic Rally Finland and for the first of what we hope will be two visits by the WRC and Hyundai Motorsport to the country in 2021. Before I underline the team’s hopes and expectations for this event, I wish to acknowledge all the hard work that’s gone into putting on this rally in such a short amount of time. The efforts of AKK Sports and all the volunteers, particularly in the context of COVID-19, has really impressed me so a big thank you to them. It’s fair to say we showed our limits on Rallye Monte-Carlo and found ourselves licking our wounds and trying to get ahead. Unfortunately, it didn’t work there and after making some changes to our approach we start the second round of the season hoping it will be much better than the first. Having wished a fond farewell to Carlos del Barrio after Monte as he prepared for the next chapter of his career, we are pleased to welcome back Craig and Paul for the start of their half-season campaign in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. We know very well their ability and determination as they try to make a strong start to their season. As well as our regular World Rally Car drivers, we are giving a big chance to a really promising youngster, Oliver Solberg. -

A RENAULT ‘FAMILY’ Jean Rédélé was the first-born son of Madeleine Prieur and Emile Rédélé, a Renault dealer based in Dieppe and a former mechanic of Ferenc Szisz – the first Renault Frères ‘factory driver’, winner of the Grand Prix de la Sarthe in 1906 at Le Mans and runner-up in the Grand Prix de l'A.C.F. in Dieppe in 1907. Louis Renault himself had hired Emile Rédélé right at the beginning of the 20th Century. At the end of the First World War, at the request of Louis Renault, the young Emile Rédélé settled in Dieppe and opened a Renault dealership there in rue Thiers. Two years later, Jean-Emile- Amédée Rédélé was born on May 17, 1922. After completing his studies in Normandy, Jean Rédélé took his Baccalauréat exam during the Second World War and came into contact with people as diverse as Antoine Blondin, Gérard Philipe and Edmond de Rothschild. 1 Dear motorist sport fans, Barum Czech Rally Zlín belongs to the most important motorsport events in the Czech Republic, in 2021 the rally will go for its 50th edition. The tradition of this event is closely connected to very high popularity of rallysport in this country and it has been year by year proved by the number of spectators. The importance of this rally was also readable from the media interest - in 2019, 275 journalist teams from 17 countries came to Zlín. The long-term partner of the event is the Barum Continental company. Connecting the biggest and the most successful tyre producer in the Czech Republic with the most important motorsport event in the country makes very solid relationship and helps to provide good name both the company and the rally. Like in the past, this tyre producer will be the main partner of the rally also during the 50th edition of the Barum Czech Rally Zlín. This rally, which is located in Moravian city of Zlín, has been developed during the years up to the top of the motorsport scene in the Czech Republic and every year it's been the pioneer with introducing new features and innovations to the rallysport. Since 1983 the rally has been a part of European Rally Championship and from 2007 it was a part promoted by TV station Eurosport. With this step the quality of the rally rose up. The rally HQ as well as the start and finish ramp are as usually located in the centre of Zlín city. The whole rally action will be launched with scrutineering held in Otrokovice Service Area on Thursday afternoon, August 26. -

Big event for everyone, it’s a brand-new challenge out there. What can you say from what you’ve seen of the roads out there on the recce? KR: The rally is new for everybody and it’s nice to be starting first car on the road on a Tarmac event. But it looks like the conditions are going to be really tricky on the stages. The stages are mainly quite technical and fast all the time. The condition is quite good in some places but then some places when it was raining before the recce there was a lot of mud and dirt on the road so it won’t be so easy. Q: Is it like a gravel rally in parts or is it not that bad? KR: Some parts on Friday look like it’s not going to help us so much to be the first car. There are some stages in parts that are full mud after the recce and those parts will not be a big benefit for us but hopefully in some places it can help us also. Q: Do you feel any different being the championship leader or do you just feel like the normal Kalle Rovanperä? KR: Not really, it is not changing anything for me. -

After a strong start with category victory at Rallye Monte Carlo and a second place at Arctic Rally Finland behind the wheel of the Toksport WRT ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 evo, Mikkelsen and co-driver Ola Fløene (NOR) were hit by a string of mishaps. Nevertheless, they are still leading the WRC2 drivers’ and co-drivers’ classification. At the WRC’s seventh round in Estonia, they are on a mission to strengthen this lead with another good result. Their teammates at ŠKODA Motorsport supported team Toksport WRT, Marco Bulacia/Marcelo Der Ohannesian (BOL/ARG), currently hold third position in the WRC2 championship standings.
