LINDSAY PEET COLLECTION Lindsay Peet was a long time member and committee member of the Friends of Battye Library (Inc.), a member of the National Trust (WA) and the Royal Western Australian Historical Society. He also held close ties with the Professional Historians Association (WA), and held the role of Vice President of that organisation. As a professional historian, Lindsay researched and wrote authoritatively on World War II and on the history of real estate development in Western Australia. Lindsay held a particular interest in military aviation, and wrote numerous academic papers and two books on the history and role of the armed forces in Western Australia. He had a particular interest in the crash landing of the American B-24 Liberator Shady Lady. His grandparents were James Thomas Peet (1862-1935) born in Nottinghamshire who married Mabel Urch (1877-1970). They came to Australia in 1886 and with Austin Bastow founded Peet & Bastow in the 1890s in Melbourne, and eventually set up real estate company Peet & Co. in Perth. James and Mabel had five children, including Cyril Ernest Peet, born 1904 in Perth WA and died 1989. Cyril married Ethel Gordon in 1936 and their son was Lindsay Peet, born 1939 in Perth. ACC 9663A is a collection of real estate maps published by Peet & Co., catalogued individually and images are available online.
