(2019). Woman’s Struggles Against Patriarchal Domestic Violence as Seen through Celeste in Moriarty’s Big Little Lies Yogyakarta: Department of English Letters, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Sanata Dharma. This study centers on the novel Big Little Lies written by Liane Moriarty. The novel broadly tells about three different families, but the focus of this study is Celeste’s problematic little family. She is married to Perry, which makes her a victim of domestic violence. The aim of this study is to explore feminist idea through Celeste’s struggles against domestic violences caused by the patriarchal practice. There are three questions in the problem formulation in this study. First is to show the patriarchal practice which occurs in Celeste family. Second is to analyze the domestic violences that she experiences. Third is to see the struggles of Celeste against the domestic violence. To answer the question, this study applied feminism approach in order to reveal the women oppression and how she struggles against it. There are some theories which are used in this study: theory of characters and characterization, theory of patriarchy,

As such, as cultivation theory suggests, it has the potential to greatly influence the way viewers see the world and the other people in it. In a more specific sense, the influence drama has is salient when considering the way it, and other forms of mass media, represents gendered stereotypes in society. Gender, or the range of characteristics, norms, and behaviors which pertain to the socially constructed spectrum of masculinity from femininity, is one of the most fundamental lenses through which we view the world around us. It functions both as a way for people to categorize others into distinct groups in order to understand them with more ease, and as a tool for placing someone in a certain spot in the social hierarchy. Subsequently, one’s gender can be used to help them understand the power – or lack thereof – which comes with its prescribed social status. In the U.S. patriarchal system, the gender designation of “woman” gives people labeled with it less power than those labeled “man.” While intersecting identities do influence where exactly each individual falls within the social hierarchy, this paper focuses on the dynamics of gender. Because the perceived superiority of men over women and masculinity over femininity is such a subconsciously accepted and deep-rooted belief in the patriarchal U.S., overt challenges to and disruptions to these ideas about gender can be uncomfortable, at the very least.

The orchestra's summer series, Concerts in the Garden, which has included numerous tribute bands in recent years, added one to its list Sunday night in the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. The Music of Fleetwood Mac, performed by a Toronto-based trio of vocalists and their four-piece band traveling under the name Jeans 'n Classics, showcased many of the biggest hits by that legendary rock band from the 1970s and '80s -- including tracks from the group's megahit 1977 album, Rumours. These types of acts have frequently gone down well in the Garden, especially when the symphony is along for the ride, as it was Sunday. Tribute acts devoted to Elvis, the Eagles and The Beatles have become popular mainstays in these performances where the only roof is the stars. This Fleetwood Mac show, in the Garden schedule for the first time, made a strong bid to join those ranks with a well-presented and nicely structured show that made good use of the orchestra to aggrandize the highly familiar chart toppers in a concert performed before an enthusiastic crowd of almost 1,700 -- including lots of dads. Fronting the band were singers Rique Franks, Kathryn Rose and Neil Donell. For the most part, Franks stood in for Stevie Nicks while Rose covered Christie McVie.
