Signed : Date : 2018 ii UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA ABSTRACT The title of this paper is The Description of Woman Abuse InLianeMoriary’s Novel Big Little Lies. This paper discuss about abusive relationship experienced by women in the novel Big Little Lies. The researcher refers to the theory of Patricelli. She divided abuse into six parts,verbal abuse, mental abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and hate crimes,but the writer only focused the two of them which are verbal abuse and physical abuse. The purpose of this paper to describe women abuse, especially in verbal abuse and physical abuse also contains two elements which are verbal abuse and physical abuse in dating violence and domestic violence. The method used to reveal women abuse in this paper is descriptive qualitative and data is collected by library research. This descriptive qualitative study used words, phrases, sentences and paragraphs in the novel, note taking to identify, and quoted which shows woman abuse also describe that. Keywords:novel, woman abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse iii UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA ABSTRAK Kertas karya ini diberi judul‘’The Description of Woman Abuse in Liane Moriarty’s Novel Big Little Lies’’. Kertas karya ini membahas tentang hubungan kekerasan yang dialami oleh wanita dalam novel Big Litle Lies. Peneliti mengacu pada teori dari Patricelli. Patricelli membagi kekerasan dalam 6 bagian, yaitu kekerasan verbal, kekerasan mental, kekerasan fisik, kekerasan seksual, pengabaian, dan kejahatan kebencian,tetapi penulis hanya focus kepada dua dari enam bagian tersebut yaitu kekerasan verbal dan kekerasan fisik. Tujuan kertas karya ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan tentang kekerasan pada wanita, terutama pada kekerasan verbal dan kekerasan fisik yang juga mengandung dua unsur yaitu kekerasan verbal dan kekerasan fisik dalam pacaran dan dalam rumah tangga. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengungkapkan kekerasan pada wanita dalam kertas karya ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dan data penelitian berupa kata, frasa, kalimat, dan paragraf yang ada di novel, mengidentifikasi dengan cara mencatat, dan mengkutip bagian yang menunjukkan kekerasan pada wanita juga menggambarkannya.
