Tired of your home’s drafty, Atlantic City lost a legend on September 18th with the passing of Henry “Hank” Tyner, the former President of Atlantic City Council, who also worked as a firefighter, a police squeaky, sticking, unsightly, inspector and then ran the city’s Mercantile Division, before dying at the age of 88 rusting or unsafe doors? following complications related to a stroke. One person who doesn’t find himself glued to his television set every Sunday As a young law associate working for in Camden and I worked there until 1962 and then I went back to work at Senator Frank “Hap” Farley’s politically charged Atlantic City based law Hap’s firm. I was the young guy back then. Hap’s story in politics starts in the 40’s at the end of the FDR era and goes all the way through the 50’s and the 60’s, right through the civil rights era and into the early 70’s when Joe McGahn beat him in 1971. To be able to resurrect their lives and stories and how they intersect like they did, with characters like Jimmy Boyd playing a significant role in both books, is something that I wanted to do so that the next generation knows the real story behind Atlantic City and this region and not the fictional story on television,” says Ferry. “And number two, writing these books is a great way for me to relive so much of my life. I have such fond memories and this gives me an opportunity to take a very detailed stroll down memory lane and has helped keep me sharp.” That and a rigorous schedule that includes daily kayaking on the English Creek, which is adjacent to the old grist mill that is a part of Ferry’s picturesque Egg Harbor Township home. “This was former Assemblyman and owner of the Atlantic City Country Club Sonny Fraser’s home many years ago,” says Ferry on his back porch. “There is a lot of history here…the birth of Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic County.” History seems to be something very near and dear to Ferry as he peruses through several binders of old Atlantic City pictures featuring never before seen photos he has accumulated over the last several decades, as well as several handwritten notes and artifacts from men like Nucky Johnson and Hap Farley.
