TITLE COVID-19 Situation Report SERIAL NUMBER 07 EPID-WEEK 19 DATE 6 May 2020

HIGHLIGHTS:  No new confirmed case(s) reported today  The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases remains thirteen (13); eleven cases from Damaturu LGA and two (2) cases from Bade LGA.  Twelve (12) confirmed cases are on admission in State Specialist Hospital (SSH) Damaturu isolation center, and all are in stable condition -and improving.  The total number of samples collected so far is 30. Of these, 13 returned positive, 6 are negative and the result of 11 samples is being awaited.  Surveillance and epidemiology team are conducting rumor investigation in Bade, Nguru, , and other high-risk LGAs. As of today, a total of 59 rumors are being investigated.

THEMATIC INTERVENTIONS Coordination:  Engaged LGA PHC directors to coordinate planning and scaling-up of contact tracing, rumors, and alert investigation as well as resource mobilization for contact tracing teams  Conducting daily COVID-19 response coordination meetings with multi-sectoral stakeholders in the state and 12 high-risk LGAs  Conducted meeting to strengthen synergy and collaboration between thematic pillars, and between state RRT with STF sub-committees on daily planning and implementation of activities

Surveillance and Epidemiology:  Conducted contact tracing and line-listed twenty-one (21) new contacts of confirmed cases  Conducted active case search in across all LGAs in collaboration with the LGA RRT teams  Investigated nine (9) new alerts in high-risk LGAs: Bade and Potiskum reported today  Continued monitoring of contacts in self-isolation.

Point of Entry (POE):  Conducted screening and initial assessment of 13 Almajiris at the POE deported from Nassarawa to Yobe state  Conducted supportive supervision and monitoring of screening exercise at POE in Nguru, Fika, and Damaturu LGAs  Conducted meetings with Fika and Gadaka community leaders to maintain vigilance and report violating vehicles traversing interstate borders through their communities  Conducted meeting with Area Commander, Force in Potiskum to strengthen enforcement of interstate border closure at the POE.

Case Management:  No new confirmed case(s) of COVID-19 reported in Yobe today  Completed training of 30 isolation center clinicians- doctors and nurses in General Hospital (GH) Potiskum  Twelve (12) confirmed cases on admission in State Specialist Hospital (SSH) Damaturu isolation center. All twelve (12) patients are in stable condition

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC):  Supported capacity building for 30 HCWs in GH Potiskum isolation center on case management, IPC –including rational and proper use of PPEs  Distributed additional IPC commodities for use in GH Potiskum and GH Gashua, Bade LGA  Providing technical support to LGA RRT and IPC teams to scale-up contact tracing and disinfection of confirmed or suspected households. Laboratory and Diagnostic Support:  The total sample collected so far is 30; of these, 13 returned positive, 6 are negative and the result of 11 samples is being awaited  Conducted case investigation in collaboration with the Surveillance team

Risk Communication and Social Mobilization:  Planned phone-in program with the Honorable Commissioner for Health in Yobe Broadcasting Corporation (YBC) to sensitize the public on COVID-19 prevention and controls measures  Supported airing of radio jingles, and public sensitization by the community and religious leaders during prayer sermons  Continued house-to-house sensitization activities by Volunteer Community Mobilizers (VCMs) in Damaturu, Potiskum, and Bade LGAs  Distributed additional COVID-19 case definitions to community informants in Damaturu, Potiskum, and Bade LGA to scale-up active case search and risk communication.

Logistics and Operational Support:  Mobilized and deployed 2 vehicles to boost COVID-19 logistics and operational support  Received donation of COVID-19 supplies from the Victims Support Funds (VSF)  The team developed a distribution list for COVID-19 commodities to LGAs, secondary facilities and isolation center  Developed tools for monitoring and utilization of supplies to support planning and decision making  Engaging SMOH to mobilize additional financial resources to support warehouse operations.

NEXT STEP(S): • Continue active case search and contact tracing • Continue close monitoring of identified contacts • Distribute COVID-19 response commodities to LGAs and health facilities • Develop an inventory of available (procured and donated) medicines for COVID-19 response, and share with the case management team • Continue resource mobilization and community sensitization on COVID-19 prevention and control.
