Scholarship Nights provide the ideal venue for students and parents alike to identify all available resources, while also having an expert on hand to answer any questions. Each Scholarship Night is tailored to the students of the school where the event is held. Administrators from local scholarship providers, including the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, the Marshall H. & Nellie Alworth Memorial Fund and Northland Scholarship Services will introduce the various awards and explain how to apply. Among other things, they will stress the January 15th application deadline. “The school year has just started, but it’s not too early to start thinking about scholarships,” says Alworth Fund Executive Director Patty Salo Downs. “Now is the perfect time to start working on your application.” David Hammer, Scholarship Officer at the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation continued “Few cities in the nation have the bounty of scholarships that is available to graduates of our local schools. Generous benefactors have created a plethora of awards for local students – each with its own special niche. Academics are important for some, but other awards, like the Minnesota Power Community Involvement Scholarship, stress community contributions and volunteerism. There’s something for everyone. The key is to not take yourself out of the running by not applying!” Interested parents and students should plan to attend their school’s Scholarship Night or contact local scholarship administrators for more information. - 1 - The schedule for Scholarship Nights is as follows: Two Harbors High School October 8 6:00pm Superior High School October 14 4:30pm Eveleth-Gilbert High School October 16 6:30pm Proctor High School October 21 6:00pm East High School October 22 7:00pm Harbor City International School October 23 6:00pm Lakeview Christian Academy October 24 6:00pm Hermantown High School October 28 6:00pm Denfeld High School October 29 6:30pm Marshall School November 4 7:00pm Cloquet High School November 13 6:00pm Esko (Lincoln) High School November 14 6:00pm Local scholarship providers can be contacted as follows: Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation [email protected] The Marshall H. & Nellie Alworth Memorial Fund [email protected] Northland Scholarship Services [email protected] The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation encourages private giving for the public good.
