I strongly encourage you to learn all you can about each of the candidates including reading their resumes and responses to five essay questions and watch the video interviews online. All are available on the diocesan webpage.www.episcopalpgh.org/pebs/. A search on YouTube with the name of the candidate and the word “Episcopal” will also reveal many sermons. They give a fuller impression of the candidates and what they think and say consistently over time. On Sunday, June 20 at 10 a.m., all members are invited to the Parish Hall to share your opinions of the candidates and what you have learned with the deputies and clergy from 2 of 9 6/11/21, 10:46 AM Firefox https://app.constantcontact.com/pages/campaigns/email-details/deta... Calvary. We will have someone on hand to take notes to record your thoughts. Please know my consistent counsel for our deputies has been to learn about all five people who have offered themselves, listen to the candidates and parishioners, pray about it, and vote for the candidate they think will be the best Bishop of Pittsburgh for all the people and clergy. –Jonathon Register for the Meet & Greet Here A special website has been created by the Transition Committee that is dedicated to all information about the search for the IX Bishop of Pittsburgh. The Reverend Geoffrey Royce hosts Reading the Saints, a ministry which will help us to keep the memory of the saints and encourage us to look into the wisdom of their example and writings. A saint is an ordinary person, now born into eternal life, who has accomplished in their lifetime extraordinary outcomes as a result of their devotion in faith. We are encouraged by our tradition to celebrate their witness and contribution to the Kingdom of God in our midst. This video series is posted on the Calvary website under Recorded Classes. Spiritual Reflection – Abraham Joshua Heschel Adult spiritual formation may be described as the step-by-step discovery of God’s presence in our lives and our personal transformation along the way. Calvary’s Spiritual Reflection meetings continue to be a regular and familiar forum for small group peer ministry. For Spring and early summer, we will use the writings of Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907–1972). Heschel was a Polish-born American rabbi, and leading 20th century Jewish theologian and philosopher. He wrote on many facets of Jewish thought, was more interested in spirituality than in critical text study, and was activist for African Americans' civil rights and against the Vietnam War. According to one reviewer, “Abraham Heschel finds just the right words to startle the mind and delight the heart.” We have purchased for the group his book, I Asked for Wonder: A Spiritual Anthology. Meetings are held using Zoom from 7-8 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday evening of each month. The next meeting will be on June 15. Email Matt Muldoon ([email protected]) or Sondra Krimmel ([email protected]) for more information or to be added to the email list. Please feel welcome to join at any time. 4 of 9 6/11/21, 10:46 AM Firefox https://app.constantcontact.com/pages/campaigns/email-details/deta...
