mCÄmNÐlÉkßrkm<úCa GENOCIDE EDUCATION PROJECT Quality Control on the Teaching of “A History of Democratic Kampuchea (1975-1979)” Report from Prey Veng and Svay Rieng provinces January 28-February 4, 2011 By Khamboly Dy Preah Bat Norodom High School in Kanh Chreach District, Prey Veng province, where education Minister H.E. Mr. Im Sethy taught Physics in 1965. From January 28 to February 4, 2011, the Documentation Center of Cambodia’s (DC- Cam’s) Genocide Education Project in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport conducted quality control on the teaching of “A History of Democratic Kampuchea (1975-1979)” in Prey Veng and Svay Rieng provinces. The team consisting of three members observed actual classroom teaching in six high schools of the two provinces in order to assess the effectiveness and challenges of teaching Democratic Kampuchea history in Cambodian classrooms and provide feedback to teachers for improvement. From June 2009 to the present, DC-Cam in collaboration with the Ministry of Education has trained 1,054 secondary school history teachers from 18 provinces of Cambodia. Among these, eleven provincial teachers from Prey Veng and nine other provincial teachers from Svay Rieng received training on November 27-December 7, 2009. Moreover, 97 commune teachers from Prey Veng received training on May 8- 14, 2010, and 100 commune teachers from Svay Rieng received training on June 24- 30, 2010. The teachers, though they have completed the training, remain concerned not only about the complex social and ethical issues, nature and political sensitivity of teaching Khmer Rouge history but also about their capacity to teach it in an effective manner. -

Un lecteur de Khmerologie nous a fait remarquer que la liste que nous donnions n’était pas à jour. Effectivement, vérification, nous nous sommes aperçus que le site de la Poste Cambodgienne n’avait pas pris en compte la réorganisation des arrondissements et quartiers de Phnom Penh qui a été faite en 2019. Pour rédiger la présente version mise à jour, nous nous sommes appuyés sur la base de données du site du NCDD (National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development), organisme du gouvernement cambodgien. Note: For the initial version of this document, we used the webpage of Cambodia Post that gives the ZIP codes of all sangkats of the city of Phnom Penh. However, a reader of Khmerologie let a message stating that our document was not up to date. After verification, we have discovered that the website of Cambodia Post does not take into account the reorganization of the administrative divisions of Phnom Penh that occurred in 2019. For the updated version of this document, we used the database published on the website of the NCDD (National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development), which is part of the Royal Government of Cambodia. Final Evaluation Report Disaster Preparedness Action Planning in Prey Veng Ian Ramage Pann Sakda Eng Sothy May 2003 Inside front cover The cover photograph shows a typical family safety hill in Kansom Ork Commune. CARE supported the family to dig and compact the first 20 cubic metres of soil. Families then added another 30 to 40 cubic metres on their own, to make the hills higher. Many families, like the one in this photograph, also built animal shelters on top of the hill providing their own labour and materials. This family has built a second and a third shelter on top of the hill for the family to evacuate during the annual flooding and to keep feed for the animals above the floodwaters. Families had repaired all the hills the evaluation team observed in this Commune after the 2002 floods and many had been improved. These family safety hills were good examples of local ownership, innovation and sustainable disaster management under the DPAP project.
