TRUSTEES The legal and corporate title of the institution is "The Trus- tees of Davidson College."' The trustees are elected by the Presbyteries of North Carolina and Florida and by the Alumni Association. The Presbytery of Concord is entitled to elect eight, Mecklenburg five, Orange and Fayetteville four each, the other five Presbyteries in North Carolina and the three Presbyteries in Florida two each, and the Alumni Association twelve, making a total of forty-nine. All trustees are elected for a term of four years. An executive Committee of ten members is elected annually, at the Commencement meeting of "The Trustees,'' and this Executive Committee exercises prac- tically all the powers of "The Trustees'' during the intervals between the meetings of that body, subject, however, to the review and control of "The Trustees.'' Extent: 66 cubic ft. (165 legal-size Hollinger boxes) Physical Description: Paper Location: MSA Stacks ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION Alternative Formats: Microfilm (S95-S123) of the Pardon Papers, 1837-1909, was made before additions, interfiles, and merging of the series. Most of the unmicrofilmed material will be found from 1854-1876 (pardon certificates and presidential pardons from an unprocessed box) and 1892-1909 (formerly restorations of citizenship). Also, stray records found in the Senior Reference Archivist’s office from 1836-1920 in Box 164 and interfiles (bulk 1860) from 2 Hollinger boxes found in the stacks, a portion of which are in Box 164. Access Restrictions: Applications or petitions listing the social security numbers of living people are confidential and must be provided to patrons in an alternative format. Combined the series Pardon Papers and Restorations of Citizenship because the latter, especially in later years, contained a large proportion of pardons. The two series were split at 1910 but a later addition overlapped from 1892 to 1909 and these records were left in their respective boxes but listed chronologically in the finding aid.

PRE FACE The extant Regfisters of this parish, beginning in October, 1682, and coming- down to 181 2, are comprised in three VoUimes. The first was in a very bad condition, but has been carefully re- Opaired and re-bound in limp cloth, though the edges of the leaves ^are much worn and torn, and probably some of the Births' sPvRegister are lost. It records the Marriages and Burials from that date until 1726, and these seem to have been regularly ^-^ entered by Aquila Forster and James Allgood, the Rectors ^r during that period, with their own hands, and are fairly well 1346GiO The Register of Births, the greater part of which were not christened in the church, commences in 1696, and was carried ^—^ on apparently with moderate regularity until 1709, although in year, are not given J that and the preceding the day and month ; ( but after that the entries are few and at long intervals, while those on page 142 are of a much later date. The first two leaves, both of the Births' and Burials' entries, are now placed in reversed order, but this may have been done in the re-binding.

    v/ EDUCATION OF VETERANS Davidson College is cooperating in full with the Veterans Administration in its educational program for men whose education was interrupted by the war and for veterans who plan to enter college for the first time. Davidson is a liberal arts college offering those courses leading to the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts Degrees. Description in detail of the offerings of the College is listed under the appropriate head- ings in the catalog. Members of the armed forces who wish to enter Davidson should contact the Registrar of the College who is in position to give veterans full information concerning the program of the College for ex-servicemen. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The financial assistance available to veterans for educational purposes is a subsistence allowance by the Federal Government of $65 a month if without dependents or $90 a month with one or more dependents. For the customary charges for tuition and necessary college fees an amount not to exceed $500 will be paid for an ordinary college year. This amount is more than sufficient to meet the college fees and approved charges at Davidson. The Veterans Administration pays all tuition and college fees, medical fees, laboratory fees, books, and supplies. From the allowance of $65 or $90 a month a veteran must take care of his living expenses including board, room and laundry. Veterans who wish to attend Davidson under the provisions and benefits of the "G. I. Bill" should communicate with the nearest Veterans Administration office.
