War in Nagorno-Karabakh: Shadow of Big Ottoman Brother Covers Azerbaijan
Video: War in Nagorno-Karabakh: Shadow of Big Ottoman Brother Covers Azerbaijan By South Front Region: Asia, Europe Global Research, November 06, 2020 Theme: Intelligence, Militarization and South Front 5 November 2020 WMD The Turkish military continues to demonstrate its non-involvement in the war with Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. On November 4, the heroic defense ministry of Turkey announced that Azerbaijani forces had shot down one more Armenian Su-25 warplane in the conflict zone. Thus, the claimed number of downed Armenian warplanes has reached seven. The only issue is that Azerbaijan itself did not claim such an incident, when the Turkish defense ministry made its statement. So, it seems that Ankara knows much more than do the Azerbaijani forces themselves, who are allegedly alone in their fight against the mighty Armenian aggressors. Meanwhile, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev undertook another Twitter advance announcing the capture of the villages of Mirak and Kavdar in the Jabrayil district, Mashadiismayilli and Shafibayli in the Zangilan district, and Basharat, Garakishilar and Garajalli in the Gubadli district. The Azerbaijani military also reported clashes in the district of Adhere. In the last 48 hours, according to Azerbaijan, Armenian forces suffered multiple casualties and lost over two dozen equipment pieces. Fortified positions and settlements controlled by Armenian forces in the central and northern parts of Nagorno-Karabakh are regularly being targeted with air and artillery strikes by Azerbaijani forces. The most intense strikes hit the areas of Shusha and the Lachin corridor. https://southfront.org/wp-content/uploads/video/05.11.20_IMR_Armenia.mp4 Armenian officials kept apace with their Azerbaijani counterparts and also made several victorious statements. -

On the Status and Distribution of Thrush Nightingale Luscinia Luscinia and Common Nightingale L
Sandgrouse31-090402:Sandgrouse 4/2/2009 11:21 AM Page 18 On the status and distribution of Thrush Nightingale Luscinia luscinia and Common Nightingale L. megarhynchos in Armenia VASIL ANANIAN INTRODUCTION In the key references on the avifauna of the Western Palearctic and former Soviet Union, the breeding distributions of Common Luscinia megarhynchos and Thrush Nightingales L. luscinia in the Transcaucasus (Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan) are presented inconsistently, especially for the latter species. These sources disagree on the status of Thrush Nightingale in the area, thus Vaurie (1959), Cramp (1988) and Snow & Perrins (1998) considered it breeding in the Transcaucasus, while Dementiev & Gladkov (1954), Sibley & Monroe (1990) and Stepanyan (2003) do not. Its distribu- tion in del Hoyo et al (2005) is mapped according to the latter view, but they note the species’ presence in Armenia during the breeding season. Several other publications Plate 1. Common Nightingale Luscinia megarhynchos performing full territorial song, Vorotan river gorge, c15 consider that the southern limit of Thrush km SSW of Goris town, Syunik province, Armenia, 12 May Nightingale’s Caucasian breeding range is 2005. © Vasil Ananian in the northern foothills of the Greater Caucasus mountains (Russian Federation), while the Transcaucasus is inhabited solely by Common Nightingale (Gladkov et al 1964, Flint et al 1967, Ivanov & Stegmann 1978, Vtorov & Drozdov 1980). Thrush Nightingale in Azerbaijan was classified as ‘accidental’ by Patrikeev (2004). The author accepted that the species had possibly nested in the past and referred to old summer records by GI Radde from the Karayasi forest in the Kura–Aras (Arax) lowlands, but Patrikeev found only Common Nightingale there in the late 1980s. -
The Site of Tigranokerta: Status Quaestionis
Acta Ant. Hung. 56, 2016, 293–314 DOI: 10.1556/068.2016.56.3.2 MICHAŁ MARCIAK THE SITE OF TIGRANOKERTA: STATUS QUAESTIONIS Summary: This paper gives an overview of all major identifications of the site of Tigranokerta, the fa- mous foundation of the Armenian king, Tigranes II (the Great, ca. 95‒55 BCE). Firstly, the paper pre- sents ancient literary evidence; secondly, it discusses all major locations of Tigranokerta suggested to date (Siirt, Silvan, Arzan, Diyarbakιr, Tell Abad, and Kιzιltepe); and finally it reaches its own conclu- sions. It appears that in the current state of research, it is Arzan which is the most likely candidate for the site of Tigranes II’s new capital. The paper also engages with the latest archaeological excavations in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, and takes issue with the identification of the site near Shahbulagh as the foundation of Tigranes the Great. Key words: Tigranokerta, Armenia, Parthia, Tigranes the Great, Mesopotamia, Arzan, Strabo, Tacitus INTRODUCTION As late as 1903, the eminent British historian Bernard W. Henderson called the iden- tification of Tigranokerta “the time-worn controversy”.1 However, since Henderson used those words, much has been written about the location of Tigranokerta, the famous foundation of perhaps the greatest Armenian king ever, Tigranes II (ca. 95–55 BCE), also known as Tigranes the Great.2 Many scholars have concluded that without proper This paper is part of my research project financed by the National Science Centre in Poland (UMO-2011/03/N/HS3/01159). The project (devoted to three regna minora of Northern Mesopotamia – So- phene, Gordyene and Adiabene) is being conducted at the University of Rzeszów under the supervision of Prof. -
