Irene and Bright travelled to rural districts in Ghana to work with health staff and volunteers at community hospitals to offer clinical support for patients with diabetes and eye diseases.

Their funding allowed them to form a team capable of offering a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment and management of diabetes and its ocular complications. They ran clinics in the rural Jaman North and Ahafo Ano South districts and were overwhelmed by the number of people who showed up.

They screened around 200 diabetes patients for foot ulcers and dry-eye disease associated with the condition. They were also able to develop educational materials and acquire vital medical supplies. “The Catholic Bishops Conference Photographs Magnusson Award has been a life changing Top: Bright and Irene arriving in Jaman North District, Sampa.
