Pope Francis Together with the Catechist Isidore Went to Convince the District Chief of a Tribe to Release Another Catholic Catechist Who Had Been Arrested
Fr Mario Vergara was born in Italy in 1910. In 1929, after studying at the Jesuit minor seminary and then went onto join a missionary seminary. An Introduction to the Theme of World Meeting of Families 2018 Pastoral
An Introduction to the Theme of World Meeting of Families 2018 The theme for each World Meeting of Families is chosen by the Pope. In choosing The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World, as the theme for the ninth World Meeting of Families in Dublin, Ireland, Pope Francis invites us to reflect on a theme that was central to the Synodal process that led to his post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia: On Love in the Family. ‘The Church and The Gospel of the Family’ was a key theme in the Preparatory Document for the III Extraordinary Assembly of Bishops in October 2014, a document that was the subject of unprecedented consultation among the faithful of the Church across the world. While the preparatory document does not give a specific definition of the term, ‘The Gospel of the Family’, it does convey at least three senses in which this relatively new phrase in the Church’s tradition can be understood: • The family, founded on the marriage of a man and woman, is part of God’s plan from the beginning. The ‘Good News’ of the family is therefore an indispensable part of the joyful message of the Gospel that the Church proclaims. • The family is the principal agent of evangelisation of its own members. As the first school of faith and love, the Christian family is often where we ourselves first come to know Jesus and his love. • The family proclaims the Gospel to the World. The Christian family, by its witness to the life and love of Jesus, is a principal agent of evangelisation to the world. -

Philosophy and Conflict Studies, 2020, vol. 36, issue 2, pp. 407–421. https://doi.org/10.21638/spbu17.2020.216 From the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 17th century, under the direction of the archdiocese in Macao (China), Jesuit missionaries set foot in China and Vietnam in turn to preach the Gospel and convert believers in these two countries. The main reason for the success of the Jesuits was the use of appropriate missionary methods and advocating proper cultural integration in each country. However, due to the different paradigm of historical de- velopment in China and Vietnam, and especially due to disagreement about the perception and behavior of indigenous culture among the Jesuits themselves, the process of evangelization in the two countries occurred differently. Based on historical and logical methods, especially the comparative method, this study analyzes and compares the similarities and differences in missionary methods and the advocacy of cultural integration in the two countries mentioned above. -

“And Stephen Was Heard…” Father Joe Mancini
“And Stephen Was Heard…” A Quarterly Newsletter Fall, 2020 Volume 1, Issue 1 of Saint Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church in Kearny, New Jersey FROM OUR PASTOR... My dear parishioners and friends of Saint Stephen’s parish, In the fall of 2013, our parish newsletter, “And Stephen Was Heard” was initiated as a part of Pope Benedict XVI’s call for Catholics to enter into a “New Evangelization”. The Pope was calling on all baptized Catholics to commit themselves to a better and more disciplined approach to speaking about and teaching the Catholic Faith. For different reasons, our newsletter lasted only a few issues. That doesn’t mean it was a failure, however. Other resources and other concerns began to demand more of our staff’s time and en- ergy. INSIDE THIS ISSUE Now, we are pleased to bring back the parish newsletter with two The Church Re-Opens! ...... 2 goals in mind: firstly, to resume the call-to-arms of Pope Bene- Parish Census Update ........ 2 dict of participating in the New Evangelization. Secondly, to ex- Confirmation ...................... 3 plore other opportunities for enhanced communication with our First Communions ............. 4 parishioners, our friends and the larger community. All Souls Day ...................... 5 Thank you Fr Juan! ........... 8 I hope that you will find something of interest in this issue and in SPECIAL POINTS OF those to come. Our number one priority must be to always keep INTEREST Jesus Christ at the center of our lives. By what we do and what Sacraments celebrated we say, we can accomplish this goal in various and beautiful under different circum- ways. -
