Although I have to admit that the original " Island" first got my attention beause of the prequel TVshow "Black Sails", this is a completely different take on the origins of Flint, Long John, and all the other beloved characters. There are authors I would attempt this sort of writing with, but not a master such as him out of sheer knowledge I would never stand up to comparison. Sadly he hasn't got that yet, though he has climbed the promotion latter all the way to Commodore, and there is a surprise elevation for him right at the end of the book.
