#COYS SECOND TO NONE NCL Round up The Saints last home fixture was against Drighlington, who were out to avenge an earlier season defeat by the Saints. With conditions that resembled a monsoon, it made the handling and attacking for both teams difficult. A try by Simon Topping, and goals by Matt Whitehead looked to have secured the points for the Saints, put a last minute penalty for the visitors ended the game in the draw. The week later, the Saints travelled to Hensingham with a squad that had to draft in Under 18s, Owen Smith and Josh Yarwood into the ranks due to injuries, and player availability. The hosts got off to a great start running in two tries in 15 minutes, before the Saints hit back with a try from Callum Cashin. Moments later, the Saints lost centre Cameron Ladd with a broken hand, and then loose forward Rob Charles, both players couldn’t return to the field. This put pressure on the bench, and with sweltering conditions it made life difficult. The home side led at half time 26 to 4,and it didn’t look Saints could claw themselves back into the game. However, the never say die attitude of the squad saw the visitors score three tries through captain Matt Whitehead, who also converted all three tries, pulled the Saints back into contention.
