The Province is also known as the “Platinum Province’’ and it is centrally located on the subcontinent with direct road and rail links to all Southern African countries. Agriculture is of extreme importance to the North West. About 64 000 people (1.7% of North West population) are working in the agricultural sector and it contributes about 2.6% through value added for the economy in 2006 . (Source: Statistics South Africa, 2007) 3 Highly Confidential INTRODUCTION CONT.............. It is shown that the African population group is the majority group in South Africa (79.42%) as well as in the North West (90.66 %). The total population of South Africa is 47.7 million, while the North West has 3.9 million residents. Bojanala Platinum District Municipality have the largest share of people in the North West Province (37.57%), while the part of the City of Tshwane municipality that falls within the boundaries of North West hosts only 13.11% of the North West population. 4 Highly Confidential STRATEGIC OVERVIEW VISION STATEMENT A safe, secure South Africa where all of its people are proud of, and value, their identity and citizenship. Mantlhasi is appointed as care taker. Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality The post of District Manager Operations is vacant, however, Ms. M,E, Dontso has been appointed as a care taker. However, Atamelang D/O services this area (Ratlou Local Municipality) once in two weeks for both health centre and small office. Khunwana and Sanineshof - accommodation allocated to DHA. Atamelang D/O services both areas daily. In all municipalities, there is a need to increase our presence through opening a large office, average offices and small offices. The District remains a developmental node in the province 11 Highly Confidential DHA FOOTPRINT Dr. Kenneth Kaunda Local Municipality DHA Presence Matlosana 1 Tlokwe 1 Ventersdorp 1‐ Small Office Maquassie Hills 1 There is a need to increase presence within Matlosana Local Municipality (Jouberton Location) Although Ventersdorp is low in population, it is constituted by many farms, Village and a big location making access a very serious challenge. DHA was offered an office for a period of 3 years by Ventersdorp Local Municipality. Three (3) dedicated staff was appointed at the beginning of August 2011 to operate from the office. Wolmarranstad Office moved to permanent structure on the 1st August 2011 12 Highly Confidential DHA FOOTPRINT Bojanala Local Municipality DHA Presence Rustenburg 1 Moses Kotane 2 Madibeng 1 Moretele (Makapansstad) 0 Kgetleng river (Swartruggens 1‐Small Office The largest District municipality in the province with only 4 DHA offices There is a need to increase capacity within Rustenburg, Moretele and Madibeng Local Municipalities Moretele Local Municipality is affected by the new local government demarcation but the area is still serviced by Temba D/O which is in Gauteng Province. The last meeting between Moretele Local Municipality and DHA North West was held on the 25th July 2011. Kgetleng revier is constituted 100% by farms and access to DHA services is a challenge.
