The total of 302 completed questionnaires is analyzed to form a source of expertise for Members of Congress. Most activities are described as formal programs, and the remainder as course offerings and research projects. Interdisciplinary and traditional disciplinary approaches are commonly adopted in the,,institutions. In the directory, the institutions are grouped under the heading of States. Included in each entry are descriptions of programs and courses, levels of study, research areas, and-comments from surveyed institutions. Activities of seven Canadian universities are incorporated in a separate section, and European science policy activities in universities are discussed. A list of programs funded by the National Science Foundation, together with grant amounts and expiration dates, is provided in the appendix.
