The idea of this guide has been kicking around in my head for a few years now. Capt. Marty and I have talked about it off and on too and we both saw the need for this type of publication. Our great staff at Max Radio of the Carolinas got busy putting the word out about the possibility of this guide and the response was overwhelming. It seems many others saw the need for such a guide and all agreed that Capt. Marty was the perfect man for the job. This is one guide that is great for both vacationers and locals. So many people come to the Outer Banks to fish. But many others are drawn to fishing after they get here and see how much fun everyone is having. Whether you fish the surf, the sound, from the pier, in-shore, near-shore or off-shore, I hope you find the Capt. Marty’s Fishing guide useful and enjoyable.

In our globalized era, it is tempting to imagine that urban experiences have a quality of sameness: skyscrapers, subways and chain stores; a density of bricks and humanity; a sense of urgency and striving. The essays in Mthis collection make clear how wrong that assumption would be: from the dreamland of Jonathan Kellerman’s Los Angeles to the vibrant awakening of Edna Buchanan’s Miami; from the mid-century tenements of Pete Hamill’s beloved Brooklyn to the haunted viaducts of Stuart Dybek’s Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago; from the natural beauty and human diversity of Charles Johnson’s Seattle to the past and present myths of Richard Ford’s New Orleans, these reminiscences and musings conjure for us the richness and strangeness of any individual’s urban life, the way that our Claire Messud is the author of three imaginations and identities and literary histories are intertwined in a novels and a book of novellas.

During this outbreak, the city watched as over 8,000 people succumbed to the disease. The scourge incited panic among residents and caused many to flee from the city as the summer drew near. The yellow fever epidemic of 1853 in New Orleans was one of the worst epidemics in the history of the United States of America, and it inspired important changes in the city's medical, social, and political practices, both locally and nationally.

II. Remembrance & Representation Figure 1. Benson Fong, Beulah Quo, and George Takei on the set of My Three Sons. 2016 Amerasia Journal Amerasia 96 Amerasia Journal 42:2 (2016): 96-117 10.17953/aj.42.1.96 The Asian American Next Door Enfiguring the Model Minority on the Domestic Melodrama Melissa Phruksachart In the years between the mass incarceration of Japanese Americans (1942-1946) and the 1965 Immigration Act, what prepared the Ameri- can public to recognize and validate the term “model minority?” This essay proposes a televisual genealogy of the model minority as dis- tinct from the 1966 formulation published by The New York Times in William Petersen’s feature “Success Story, Japanese-American Style.”1 Building upon prior scholarship, I inquire into the early Cold War log- ics that precipitated the popular rise of the model minority figure in 1966. In particular, I point to network television as an archive that circulated the structures of feeling necessary for the model minority to take hold. By doing so, I place recent histories of Asian American do- mesticity during the Cold War era into closer conversation with U.S. popular culture, particularly television. While popular media histories lament the rarity of Asian Ameri- cans on television, I identify the trope of the Asian American neigh- bor as increasingly common on television in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Both the television industry and Asian American communities found themselves rapidly growing in size in mid-1950s California. At stake for both the television industry and Asian American commu- nities was the chance to be “domesticated” into the American home.
