ALL TOWELS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL ...and that’s OK! In our catalog you will find descriptions like 24x50 8LB 16 single open end 86/14 blend, or 24x50 15LB 20 double ground 16 single pile ring spun, 100% cotton. Both of these describe a bath towel, which can be a little intimidating if you go it alone. So, whether you’re looking for a no-thrills institutional towel for prison laundries, or a plush towel to pamper spa guests, we’ll help you understand ‘towel speak’. Size 24x50 24x48 Pay close attention to the size in relation to weight. A 24x48 8lb towel will have a plusher feel than a 24x50 8lb towel. The smaller towel will make the weight up in additional pile.

Weight Commonly misinterpreted, the weight in pounds refers to the weight per dozen towels, not weight per towel. A dozen is the standard UOM for selling towels. However, pay close attention to the case pack which lets you know the minimum dozen you must purchase in a carton or bale. Yarn Construction The numbers you see associated with cotton production refer to number of threads that make up the yarn. Thread strength is determined by the staple length of cotton. The lower the number, the thicker, harder, and less durable the yarn. Higher quality yarn is made from long-staple fibers which are spun into finer, stronger threads. So, 20 single SINGLE yarn is half the diameter of 10 single yarn and twice as long. Yarn fibers are doubled for additional strength. 20 double yarn is made with two strands of yarn twisted together to forge a greater tensile strength (much like a suspension bridge cable). DOUBLE

Yarn Construction The majority of commercial towels are made with ring spun or open end yarn. • Ring Spun Yarn - Spun on spindles which gives the yarn its high tensile strength. Yarn is twisted uniformly to the core which gives the pile an even, optically whiter, softer feel. It is more expensive due to the additional processing steps. RING SPUN OPEN END • Open End Yarn - Common in institutional towels, open end yarn has a harsher hand feel, lower strength and uneven twist; but is economical, and therefore mass-produced.

Towel Material Our towels are typically made from one of two constructions. • 100% Cotton - Softer, more absorbent, but less durable, 100% cotton towels have a higher perceived value over blended towels. 100% cotton is the first choice for all color towels as polyester does not take and retain dye evenly. • Cotton/Poly Blend - The towel will be built with a polyester ground and cotton pile. There will be no significant loss of softness, and the towel will stand up to around 30 more washes than 100% cotton towels. Another benefit is that blended towels dry quicker.

Shipping Options • Carton Packed – Smaller quantities of towels packed in cardboard boxes. Some towels may be used directly out of the carton which saves time and money by eliminating a wash cycle. • Bale Packed – Larger quantities of towels compressed into bales by machines are more economical to handle and ship; however, they will need to be washed prior to use.

HOTEL MAKEUP TOWEL Makeup towels are quickly become popular with mainstream hotels because they extend the life of the hotels’ white towels. SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE RAG PRODUCTION When used linens are brought to Monarch Brands they may contain substances that may be harmful to humans as well as the surfaces they are cleaning. This is especially true when buying from hospitals and hotels. Syringes, cutlery, pins, broken surgical equipment and even nuts and bolts have been found in rag bales over the years.

Monarch Brands is invested in the health and safety of everyone who comes in contact with our rags. Recycled rags that leave our facility are put through our metal detector piece by piece by piece. The detector is extremely sensitive and blows rags with trace amounts of foreign objects into a discard bin.

PRODUCT CARE INSTRUCTIONS ...or getting the most bang for your buck

CLEANING MICROFIBER To preserve the life of your microfiber, wash and dry after use. Otherwise you run the risk of contaminants setting in the cloth. This will hamper future cleaning efforts by clogging the fine cleaning channels and increases the risk of cross contamination.

•• Wash the most soiled microfiber in separate loads. This is most easily done when using a color coordinated system as some tasks Operation Time Temp. Water lvl are dirtier than others. Flush 2 Mins 120°F High •• Wash microfiber only with other microfiber as cotton releases lint Flush 2 Mins 140°F High that is trapped within the microfibers. Wash/Solvent 25 Mins 160°F Low •• Program commercial laundry washing machines with the follow- Rinse/Extract 3 Mins 140°F High ing cycle for optimum results. Use more solvent for heavily soiled cloths, never use alkaline, bleach, or fabric softener. Rinse/Extract 2 Mins 80°F High Rinse 2 Mins 80°F High Extract 6 Mins DRYING MICROFIBER Microfibers are more susceptible to damage due to heat. Their polyamide material could deform when in contact with hot dryer drums. If you insist on machine-drying, set the temperature to a maximum of 140°F and remove immediately following the dry cycle. Preferred option: Air dry.

When drying mops commercial laundries have two options. •• Do not dry, add disinfectant during the 80°F rinse cycle then seal mops in a poly bag for transportation. •• Pre-load wet-mops with chemical product by placing them in a container with cleaning chemicals. In 30 minutes you will have a saturated wet mop that’s ready to quickly deploy in a soiled area.

CLEANING TOWELS All sizes of toweling can be washed in the same wash cycle (bath towels, hand towels etc.). However white towels should always be Operation Time Temp. Water lvl washed separately from colored towels, and kitchen/restaurant Flush 2 Mins 100°F High towels should be laundered separately than guest towels. Wash/Alkali (Break) 15 Mins 170°F Low Identify stains prior to laundering. Hotel bed and bath linen may contain blood, feces, vomit or urine and should always be treated Wash/Detergent 15 Mins 170°F Low as potentially infectious linen. This linen should always be kept Rinse/Bleach 3 Mins 150°F Med-low separate and washed using a heavier cycle. Rinse 2 Mins 140°F Med-low Fatty acids and grease contained in body soils are best neutralized Rinse 2 Mins 120°F Med-low by alkaline PH substances. However, in order for the towel to be made ready for use, you must rinse and rebalance the alkali with Rinse/Softener 2 Mins 100°F Low acid (such as bleach).

DRYING TOWELS Separate beach and bath towels, hand towels and washcloths, tea towels and bar mops. They will dry at different rates due to their weights and construction. Dry until the moisture level of the finished towel is between 4-6%. Over-drying in a tumble dryer is the leading cause of greying. This is due to bone-dry terry loops inability to discharge static. As a result, the towel surface attracts every particle from the drying air-stream leading to progressive greying.
