THE VOICE OF NORTHWEST CYCLING MAY 97 • FREE 1997 racing season brings out the best BY TIM ENGLE owbells, thumping tunes, hundreds of spectators...this is the distinctive flavor of CEuropean cycling venues, yet it can be en- joyed here in the Northwest. A great example of this was the U.S. National Cyclo-Cross Champi- onships held Dec. 7, 1996, in Burien, Wa. Top local racers rode impressively (garnering podium spots in nearly every category) but could have used more support from one of the most popular cycling areas in the country. A number of talented riders call the Northwest home, but, unfortunately, publicity has been few and far be- tween.
