Thc early collcctions of Byblisaquat ica, B.filiJolia andB. linflora wcre cultivatedannually from the prcviousseason's hand-pollinated . Inl996, B. roridq wascultivated for thefirst time with B. qqucttica, l). filifolia and B. linfloru under idcntical conditions

Seedrvas germinate d by firstsoaking the seed in a solutionof l0 mlof gibbcrcllicacid to 1000mlof distillcdwater for 24 hours. Seedwas surface sown onto sphagnum peat moss in l5 cm diam.plastic pots. Thepots wcrewatered from belowbystandingthem in a trayholding a 2 ctn depth ofwater' Naturalsunlight was provided broken by 30% shadccloth

Morphologicaldescriptions were drawn up usingdried, spirit, fresh and cultivated material. The illustrationswere drawn from fresh material.
