January 8-June 18: “The Hidden Works of J.N. ‘Ding’ Darling” at the Ned Smith Center The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art is proud to announce its next Olewine Gallery exhibition, The Hidden Works of J.N. “Ding” Darling, leading political cartoonist in the 1900s and an important figure in the early conservation movement. He won the Pulitzer Prize twice (1924 and 1943) and reached America through more than 100 of the nation’s leading newspapers while he was employed at The Des Moines Register and Sioux City Journal. A public opening reception will be held on Friday, January 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ned Smith Center. A screening of the documentary “America’s Darling: The Story of Jay N. ‘Ding’ Darling” will be presented in conjunction with the exhibit opening. Light refreshments will be served. January 14: The Jive Aces 7:30 PM Top competitors on “Britain’s Got Talent,” sell-out performers in the U.K., The Jive Aces will bring their high-energy Jump, Jive and music to this side of the Atlantic when they travel from New York City to Williamsport for our yellow special show. Music from greats like Louis Prima, Cab Calloway, , and Sammy Davis, Jr., plus their own superb originals, will have audiences out of their seats in every section of the Community Arts Center. www.CACLive.com Williamsport

January 14-16: Uptown Music Collective--Fleetwood Mac Tribute 7:30 PM The Community Theatre League’s intimate space makes for a unique concert experience and lets concert-goers get up close and personal with the students of the UMC. You will marvel at the musicianship and talent of these amazing kids. This year’s concert will feature the music stylings of Fleetwood Mac and focus on their multi-platinum album, “Rumours.” www.CTLShows.com Williamsport

Now-January 9: Packwood House Winter Exhibit Featured in the Tour Center’s Kelly Gallery, the exhibit will examine the varieties of forms and decorations used by potters in Central Pennsylvania during the late 18th through the early 20th centuries. Items on display will include common utilitarian pieces such as pitchers, cups, bowls, plates, crocks, jars, and jugs. www.PackwoodHouseMuseum.com Lewisburg

Now-January 16: Programming at the Children’s Museum Enriching the lives of people in the region, the Children’s Museum fosters a lifelong love of learning through enjoyable interactive programs and exhibits that bring out the imagination in every child and the child in every visitor. Programs include Preschool Discovery: Bubble Bath Day (1/9); Homeschool Hangout (1/13); and Time Machine Series: Ancient Egypt (1/16). Dig into Ancient Egypt, play an Egyptian game, and make a DIY King Tut mask. American Girl Club meets 1/16. Play winter games, make a craft, and learn about wintery traditions through the centuries. Now-January 16: Taber Museum Model Trains Exhibit The holidays may be over but the Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society invites the community to their exhibit, “Trains at the Taber”, a collection of model trains and trolleys loaned by members of the community. The holiday exhibit compliments the incomparable collection assembled by the late Larue Shempp and on permanent exhibit at the Taber Museum. Some 300 trains and two working layouts delight young and old, enthusiast or casual observer. www.TaberMuseum.org Williamsport

Now-January 25 Union County Library Events Special and ongoing programs for children and adults are offered through the Union County Library System. Learn Your Tech Gadgets workshops will be held January 5, 12 & 19. Trying to figure out your new tech gadget? Jeff Seebold, Technology Training Services Coordinator, can help you get started. Get Fit with Fitbit workshops will be held January 11, 20, 21 & 25. Explore various activity trackers and devices, what they do, and how they work as well as the apps to maximize their potential. If you are interested in history you will enjoy a lecture by Author Chris Brady of Remembering Firebase Ripcord on January 14 from 5-7pm. Remembering Firebase Ripcord details the 101st Airborne Division which was the last full division remaining in Vietnam by 1970. Chris Brady discusses the battle that claimed over 100 American lives, the heroes who fought in it and the two-year process of writing the book. Now-February 26: "Nature Calls: Celebrating the Art of Plein Air" Open-call exhibition, celebrating art created outdoors -- in the plein air. Work in any medium accepted from any artist of any age and level of experience. Nature Calls: Celebrating the art of Plein Air and art inspired by nature. Have you made art outdoors, or art that represents the outdoors? Submit it for this show! Artwork must be received on/by: Saturday, January 9, 1-3 pm. Installation: January 9-10. Now-March 20: Samek Art Museum Exhibits Salthouse opens January 19- March 20. Presenting 13 recent photographs of central PA artist, Stephen Althouse. Althouse was raised Quaker and his large-scale, lushly printed photographs depict Amish tools, armor, and implements of country living that foreground the aesthetics of use and material memory. On exhibit in the Samek Gallery, Third Floor, Elaine Langone Center. Also on exhibit through February 28 in the downtown gallery, Jas Knight: Euhemerized. Knight combines traditional 16th and 17th century realist painting styles with references to contemporary African life and conflict.
