Rams 96 86 268 STORE LAMBS A very strong trade and more could have been sold, top being £84.50 for shorn Suffolk x from Christie Farms of Instow. DRAFT EWES Larger entry and what a trade from start to finish up around £8 to £10 a head with several pens of heavy ewes, top being £101.50 from Winston Grigg of Trengune and Mules topped at £82. 303 CALVES & STIRKS – 09.45 am Auctioneer: James Morrish 07814 010133 Another excellent day in the calf pens saw BREED BULLS HEIFERS another improvement in trade for beef calves No Top Ave No Top Ave however Holstein bulls were a little harder to place. The highlight of the day was a superb run of 40 day old Limousins in from PH Collins Partnership at £440 (x2) & £430 with Ashwater Farms Ltd of Winkleigh at £400 (36 days) and the pick of a run from the Smale Family of North Molton at £390 and other young Blues in from Messrs Cleave of Bude at £398. Several Charolais calves today saw the best at £390 from the Wearing Family with others at £310 from the same good farm. Kevin Ellis of North Cornwall topped the Angus pens with some nice ‘name sire’ bulls reaching £275, £230 & £218 with John Cann of Highampton not far back at £200. Herefords were out in good numbers today and hit £250 on behalf of Angela Dilling of West Devon with Phil Allin of Clawton selling very young Angus calves up to £170. Holstein bulls topped at £175 (x5) for the Woollen Family of Bideford with SR Gilbert & Son of Sheepwash at £170. Best of the baby Holsteins topped at £85, however in truth trade was £15-£20 back on last week’s flyer. Heifers today were another improved trade with the best Blues at £360 for Tredinney Farm of Penzance with Messrs Parsons at £300 and also John & Mark Elliot of Bradford at £300. ** TB COLLECTION ON MONDAY WITH 30 ALREADY ENTERED** Please contact the office to book your TB restricted calves. 01409 253275 Clamp of silage – Near Winkleigh FODDER FOR SALE Following the sale of the farm’s dairy herd an ‘unopened’ clamp of silage is for sale by private treaty. The clamp is built on a concrete yard & sides and is sheeted down to a good standard. The analysis is available on request but includes 33.1% dry matter & 61.8 ‘D value’. For further details contact 01409 253275 ref James Morrish. 330 STORE CATTLE – 11 am Auctioneer: David Kivell 07899 960272 Another flyer this week with several good consignments of cattle on offer, forward cattle with flesh saw the strongest trade most £1100 and with Continentals topping at £1300 for a 24mth Limousin from Messrs RS Jones of Holsworthy who sold 5 younger Limousins at £1170. A good run of single suckled steers saw Charolais from Mr A May of Delabole to £1195 others to £1120. Stabiliser steers from Mr S Hopper sold to £1180, British Blues from the same farm £1160 whose Charolais made £1070. Native cattle sold well, 2 Aberdeen Angus steers from Messrs Lang of Parkham sold to £1170 and Blonde Aquaitaines from the same farm £1140. Herefords topped at £1025 for 2 from Messrs FA Marshall of Shebbear. Strongest heifers £1000 and top of the day being £1085 for an Aberdeen Angus heifer from Messrs Cornish of Welcombe, Blonde Aquaitaine heifers from Messrs Lang of Parkham sold to £1070 (5). Limousins from Mr D Jones of Holsworthy £1050. A superb run of well farmed forward Norwegian Red x and Friesian steers from Messrs J & L Quance of Shebbear saw a top call of £1200 with the 15 averaging £1038. Younger 14-18mth Holsteins saw many range from £550-£790. Younger cattle in short supply. A 14mth Hereford steer from Messrs Marshall of Shebbear sold to £940, Dairy x Limousins from Messrs Curtis Partners to £820 – more required! A run of Hereford & Limousin cows Pd’d 7mth to Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Pocock sold to £820 with others at £800. A good number saw beef cows top at £750 for a non FA Hereford cow from Messrs 41 GRAZING COWS Pocock of Pancrasweek, British Blues from Bellamy & Crocker to £730 other British Blues from Mr J Bailey of Launcells £725, leaner non FA Charolais x cows to £525 for Messrs Collins of Holsworthy. A lovely run of pure Limousin Cows (non FA) from Mr G May of Port Isaac rose to 10 OTM COWS 123p topping at £946, other non FA cows averaged 110p – more required! Our thanks to our vendors for Maiden Heifers 600 545 such an outstanding quality entry that saw Yearling Heifers 1250 729 cattle depart Holsworthy for Scotland, Cheshire, Wales, Wiltshire and all parts of the South West. Top price of £3,600 was achieved by the Best Cow In Milk and Overall Champion, ‘Willsbro Dalliance Lila B’, an August calved second calver yielding 54 Kgs out of the world famous Lila Z family. Also breaking the £3,000 mark was another much admired second calver from the Willsbro team from Wadebridge, ‘Willsbro Sender Ashlyn 100 VG86’, who calved fresh in September yielding 51 Kgs, 5.50% BF, 3.47% PTN, and sold at £3,100 to a buyer in Scotland. Selling at £2,220 was another second calver ‘Willsbro Abbott Pammy 174’, freshly calved in October yielding 54 Kgs. Second Prize Cow and Reserve Champion ‘Littleweir Alexander Unice VG87’ from the Murch family at Umberleigh sold at £2,100. Third calvers topped at £1,750 for Third Place Cow ‘Bartinney Twist Snowy GP81’ sold on behalf of Messrs DW & RJ Warren from Penzance. Also selling at £2,000 was second calver ‘Tregreen Uno Rosa’, sold giving 42 Kgs by Messrs J P Green & Son, Helston. An exceptional quality entry of freshly calved heifers saw a very consistent trade right throughout the sale. The best 24 heifers averaged £2,088 with 20 of these selling at or above £2,000. The trade for heifers topped at £2,250 for four animals including the Best Heifer In- Milk ‘Bocaddon Avenger BJ Emma’ sold by Messrs SR Gilbert & Son of Sheepwash plus ‘Willsbro Lighthouse Sara’, ‘Willsbro Calunet Ghost 77’ and ‘Willsbro Fedex Dolly 59’.
