Priority is given to the training and cultural outreach of all people and institutions that have ties with IE. Resources go to funding scholarships for students, grants for training and research for professors, and funds for updating and improving IE’s educational structure. The Foundation operates throughout Spain, but also has an international presence throughout North and South America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Northern Africa and Europe. ie Foundation 0 6 0 7 A c t i v i t i e s ie Foundation r e p o r t 3 2 0 1 0 Training scholarships and grants for teachers Funding for scholarships and research projects Financing of the Ph.D. program Sponsorship of various institutions Aid for the Publications Department Joint publication of the IDEAS magazine and other publications Sabbatical programs for international professors Cooperation with external foundations and institutions Maintenance of the Library Cooperation with the IE Alumni Association to fund the Chair of Business Ethics Financing of scientific conferences, seminars and meetings Financing of elective courses Cooperation with various IE centers Aid for courses, seminars and conferences Support and monitoring of extraordinary Chairs Scholarships and aid to Spanish and foreign students to study at IE ie Foundation 0 8 0 9 R e s e a r c h A c t i v i t i e s ie Foundation r e p o r t 3.12 0 1 0 Centers Center for Negotiation and Mediation This Center, directed by Mercedes Costa, was created with the objective of fostering the study, research and practice of negotiation techniques in order to improve the negotiation skills of all kinds of professionals. Activities • Teaching: Master programs and post-graduate courses, Executive Education, in-company and on-line training courses. • Research: Topics such as negotiation methods, interpersonal communication, linguistic, relational and persuasive resources, power relations and means of influence, creativity, divergent thinking and value creation, as well as negotiation in the international arena. The following activities are worthy of note: Negocia Forum: A forum designed to generate knowledge regarding the nature, purpose and limits of negotiation. The work of this forum revolves around three complementary axes: round tables and conferences; the Negocia Forum studies and extensive diffusion. Continuation with the line of research on “Negotiation and Joint ventures in China”. • Dissemination: Negotiation and Mediation Centre website http://centronegociacion.ie.edu, publications and open days. Participation in forums and conferences. ie Foundation 1 0 1 1 Center for Corporate Governance The main objective of this Center is to encourage research, training and dissemination in the areas of Corporate Governance, Corporate Responsibility and Corporate Reputation. It is a joint initiative between Bankinter, Iberdrola, PWC and IE Business School, headed by Tomás Garicano. Activities • I Corporate Reputation and Responsibility Seminar. Recovering trust. The transparency required by stakeholders. • II Corporate Governance Seminar. • Round Table: The reform of the Unified Code of Good Governance (CUBG). The new legislation on director remuneration. • Round Table on restrictions on voting rights. • Research projects: Reflections for the debate on Restrictions on Voting Rights. Good Corporate Governance, Dialogue between Shareholders and Corporate Reputation. Good Corporate Governance and State Commercial Companies. Shareholder Transparency and Good Corporate Governance. R e s e a r c h A c t i v i t i e s ie Foundation r e p o r t 3.12 0 1 0 Diversity Global Management Center The Center was created to further the management of diversity in terms of gender, culture, age and skills as a competitive advantage in the corporate world through reflection, knowledge generation and the diffusion of know-how. This Center, directed by Celia de Anca, includes the Islamic Finance Center, which, in cooperation with the King Abdul Aziz University of Saudi Arabia, aims to become the European center of reference for the study of Islamic economics and finance. Activities • Projects to support improved integration of women into the production network. • Active cooperation with the global program “10,000 Women”. • Training and mentoring program for female entrepreneurs from Liberia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Mozambique and South Africa. In cooperation with FAS (Femmes Africa Solidarité) and AECID (the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation). • Support for existing initiatives: Ongoing support for national initiatives that encourage female participation in governing bodies and work/life balance programs (LiderA scholarships, Madrid region). • Mentoring program, aimed at high-potential female Master’s students at IE. This program is designed as a professional development instrument in which mentoring forms a key part. ie Foundation 1 2 1 3 R e s e a r c h A c t i v i t i e s ie Foundation r e p o r t 3.12 0 1 0 Center for Human Resources The Center is an initiative which seeks to support executives and specialists of this field in order to update their professional skills. Its principal objective is to act as a forum for the generation and exchange of expertise on different aspects of Human Resources, with a particular focus on emerging topics that could affect management capacity in this area in the near future. Its activity focuses on three major areas: knowledge creation, dissemination of expertise and network generation. Activities • Benchmarking club, a platform for the exchange of Human Resources indicators and best practices that enables the segmentation-based comparison of data between companies, and facilitates networking. • Internal Communication and Corporate Identity Observatory, a space for sharing experiences and expertise in these areas. An ongoing debate and research forum which provides a closer look at the most effective and innovative actions and projects. • Expansión y Empleo Awards, coordination of these annual awards created for the recognition of companies showing particular innovation in the area of Human Resources, culminating with the presentation of a report. • Applied research on matters of Human Resources interest. • Organization of seminars and conferences. ie Foundation 1 4 1 5 Chairs Madrid Global Chair on International Urban Strategy The Madrid Global Chair on International Urban Strategy is a joint initiative between Madrid City Government and IE School of Architecture. Its objectives are: • To support research, training, knowledge creation and dissemination, and to organize and cooperate with forums for the exchange of experiences in international urban strategies, with a special focus on the city of Madrid. • To bring together knowledge about the economic and management dimensions of cities’ international strategies. • To act as a laboratory where the research agenda for this issue is drafted, and as a think tank, anticipating future trends. In March 2010, the Chair was relocated, and now falls within the IE School of Architecture & Design and under the management of Martha Thorne. Activities • Participation in EXPO Shanghai 2010 with a conference on the theme of “Better City, Better Life” at the Madrid Pavilion. • AA/IE Madrid Summer School 2010. Bleaching Green workshop. • China: An Inside View Program. Executive Program in cooperation with the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. • Informative session: Current Opportunities in China’s Economic Growth. R e s e a r c h A c t i v i t i e s ie Foundation r e p o r t 3.12 0 1 0 José María Cervelló Chair The José María Cervelló Chair, directed by Carlos de la Pedraja and since recently by Pilar Galeote, was established to honor the founder and professor of the IE Law School. The Chair funds scholarships for the tax and legal programs of the IE Law School, for students with excellent academic records and limited economic resources.
