Berkat petunjuk Allah dan berkat bimbingan Rasulullah SAW kita dapat hidup selesa, aman, tenteram, tenang dan jauh dari mara bahaya dan mala petaka. Untuk mempertahankan kehidupan yang ma’ruf, normal, dan selesa dalam bimbingan Allah SWT marilah kita meningkatkan iman, taqwa, dan amal shalih sehingga kehidupan ini jauh dari kema’shiyatan dan kedhaliman serta dekat selalu dengan amalan shaliha. Pokok pangkal utama penyebab kehancuran sesuatu kaum dan bangsa dalam dunia yang sudah tercatat dalam sejarah adalah faktor keambrukan moral (akhlak), baik yang terjadi pada zaman Nabi Luth maupun pada zaman kehidupan hari ini. Sebagai salah satu solusi menghindari dari ancaman bala Allah dalam kehidupan ini semua kita harus menjaga dan memperbaiki akhlak sehingga berada pada posisi akhlak karimah. Alhamdulillah, Dr. Muhammad Abdurrahman, M.Ed telah Berjaya menuntaskan satu lagi buku barunya yang diberi judul: Pendidikan Karakter Bangsa. Buku ini sangat relevan dengan kehidupan bangsa-bangsa di dunia hari ini mengingat dekadensi Dr. Muhammad Abdurrahman, M.Ed iii moral di berbagai belahan dunia semakin hari semakin tinggi, salah satunya adalah maraknya praktik homoseksual, lesbian, gay, biseksual, transgender yang terangkum dalam pertubuhan LGBT. Buku ini selain memberi solusi bagi dekadensi moral kepada bangsa-bangsa di dunia, ia juga menjadi pegangan tersendiri kepada generasi muda Islam yang menjaga akhlak karimah selalu bersamanya. Untuk kalangan para pelajar dan mahasiswa selayaknya harus memiliki buku ini untuk dibaca, ditela’ah, diamalkan, dan disebarkan kandungannya kepada pihak lain baik untuk muslim maupun non muslim. Kepada masyarakat umum, buku ini menjadi standar utama untuk membimbing akhlak anak-anak dan keluarga sehingga tidak salah kaprah dalam kehidupan beragama, berbangsa, bernegara, dan bermasyarakat. Dobrakan budaya barat yang menghalalkan sesuatu yang haram berkenaan dengan akhlak menjadi tantangan besar dan berat bagi keluarga muslim di muka bumi ini. Persoalan seks bebas, pergaulan bebas, kawin sejenis, tipu menipu, ancam mengancam, dobrak mendobarak dalam politik menjadi persoalan paling serius dan sensitif bagi anak bangsa muslim. Buku ini menjadi salah satu pegangan dan sekaligus solusi jitu untuk menghadapi semua itu dengan mengedepankan akhlak Islam yang selama ini dikesampingkan oleh mereka yang tidak beradap dan tidak berakhlak Islami. Ketika draft buku ini diperlihatkan pada saya, ada beberapa hal yang menjadi bahan pertimbangan mengapa buku ini penting dikaji. Pertama, karya ini menyentuh aspek terdalam dalam penyusunan tata pikir kemanusiaan (al-fikrah al-insāniyyah), yaitu kajian tentang moralitas. Studi ini banyak dilakukan oleh para sarjana di dalam menghubungkan antara jiwa-batin-akal1 yang terwujud dalam perilaku. Ada juga studi yang dilakukan oleh para sarjana menghubungkan kajian moralitas dengan bangunan epistemologi kehidupan manusia di era modern.2 Dalam studi Islam, kajian-kajian model ini banyak ditemukan dalam studi tasawuf.3 Karena itu, studi sufisme begitu penting di dalam Islam, karena kajian ini berhubungan dengan kontruksi bangunan jiwa yang dekat dengan Allah, yang kemudian memiliki perilaku 1William C. Dr. Muhammad Abdurrahman, M.Ed vii yang sahih.4 Dalam konteks inilah buku Pendidikan Karakter Bangsa dapat diletakkan sebagai karya yang amat penting dalam pembinaan fondasi moralitas bangsa. Buku ini mengintegrasikan spiritualisme dan intelektualisme dalam satu tarikan nafas. Kedua, dalam beberapa tahun terakhir di Indonesia sedang diwacanakan untuk menggali karakter bangsa. Bahkan muncul juga wacana tentang revolusi mental yang dijadikan sebagai bahan kampanye pilpres oleh Jokowi.5 Namun, ricuh atau huru hara yang selalu muncul di dalam kancah politik di negara ini selalu melibatkan Islam dan juga isu komunisme. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa ada yang belum selesai di dalam pencarian karakter bangsa di Indonesia, khususnya ketika Order Reformasi lahir pada tahun 1998. Karena itu, proses pencarian karakter bangsa masih memberikan ruang yang amat lebar bagi siapapun yang ingin mengisinya. Ruang ini sebenarnya tidaklah begitu hampa, melainkan telah muncul kontestasi di kalangan anak bangsa di dalam menggali pemahaman yang cukup fundamental bagi peneguhan karakter bangsa.6 Proses konflik antara idealitas dan realitas merupakan satu agenda yang perlu dijelaskan oleh para akademisi, dimana buku ini telah mencoba menguraikan dari perspektif Islam. Ketiga, karya ini merupakan sikap konsistensi penulis di dalam menjadikan akhlak sebagai landasan perilaku bagi setiap bangsa. Penulis telah mengkaji aspek akhlak ini mulai dari kurikulum pendidikan, akulturasi di dalam dunia pendidikan dayah, fenomena sosial, dan yang terakhir ini penulis telah membangun suatu konstruksi pemikiran tentang karakter. Dengan kata lain, penulis tentang memasuki suatu penjabaran konsep spirit Islam dalam ranah etika, nilai, moral. Dalam Islam, tiga konsep ini banyak ditemui dalam ranah studi tasawuf,8 dimana manusia mampu menghasilkan relasi positif dengan dirinya sendiri, Allah, dan alam semesta.9 Sebagai contoh, dalam literatur spiritualisme Islam muncul karya-karya tentang bagaimana membangun karakter di dalam diri manusia, seperti karya Syeikh ‘Abd. Al-Qādir al- Jaylani al-Hasani yang berjudul al-Ġunyyah liṭālib ṭarīq al-ṭaqq ‘aza wajalla fī al-Akhlāq wa Taṭawūf wa al-Adab al-Islāmī. Karya ini menjelaskan menemukan diri yang paripurna di dalam ajaran Islam, yang kemudian terjewantah dalam akhlak, tasawuf, dan adab. Bangunan kedirian yang dikupas di dalam karya ini memiliki berbagai dimensi kehidupan manusia, baik hubungan sesamanya, hubungan dengan dirinya sendiri, dan hubungan dengan Allah. Penekanan para ‘ulama pada diri, juga dapat dilihat dalam karya Imam al-Ghazzali yang berjudul Mukāsyafah al- Qulūb. Karya ini juga ingin membuka mata hati manusia, supaya dapat menempuh kehidupan yang hak melalui berbagai proses 8 Abi Hamid
