    MICHAEL JACK SCHMIDT Ohio ’71 Oxford Cup Roll Nº 023 In more than 2,000 games, spanning 18 years with the Philadelphia Phillies, Mi- chael Jack Schmidt, Ohio ’71, helped lead the team to five division titles, two Na- tional League pennants and two World Series. He also claimed individual honors as Most Valuable Player three times, including MVP for the 1980 World Series; won 10 Gold Gloves and led the league in home runs eight times. Elected to the All-Star team 12 times, he finished his career ranked seventh on the all-time home run list and held 14 major league records, 24 Phillies career re- cords and 11 Phillies season records. He was “1980s Player of the Decade” and was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995, his first year of eligibility. Following retirement, Mike broadcast games on PRISM, bringing insight and hu- mor to a behind-the-scenes look at the game. American League East Draft Tendencies Abstract This study examined the drafting practices of teams in the American League East Division and the business implications that correspond to these results. Each team has their own drafting strategy and by analyzing this you will gain a better understanding as to why certain decisions are made. The research explored the relationship between teams in the American League East with regards to when and how to draft players. To answer this question an analysis of each of these five team’s draft picks from 1998-2007 was completed by comparing each draftee by point of entry and round drafted in. The results show a clear correlation for each team in regards to the round a type of player was drafted and the position they play.

The research includes the analysis of newspaper coverage of the most significant sporting events in recent Japanese history, including the 2014 Koshien National High School Baseball Championships, the awarding of the People’s Honor Award, the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, wrestler Hakuho’s record breaking victories in the sumo ring, and the bidding process for the 2020 Olympic Games. 2054 Japanese language articles were examined by thematic analysis in order to identify the extent to which established themes of “Japaneseness” were reproduced or renegotiated in the coverage. The research contributes to a broader understanding of national identity negotiation by illustrating the manner in which established symbolic boundaries are reproduced in service of the nation, particularly via mass media. By: Jack Greiner on December 16, 2020 on graydon.law The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit is considering whether a letter from Rob Manfred to New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman should be sealed. The letter was part of a lawsuit in the Southern District of New York filed by fantasy baseball players who contended that the league and the teams should be liable for the losses of those who bet on games that may have been tainted by electronic sign-stealing. The trial court threw out the lawsuit, but before it did, it ruled the letter was irrelevant. But the trial court ruled that the letter could be released to the public. And the Yankees are not happy about it, evidenced by their suit in the Second Circuit. The Yankees argue that because the court ruled the letter irrelevant, it’s none of the public’s business. The fantasy players argued that Manfred’s letter, which concerned a 2015 incident where MLB fined Boston for illegally using an Apple watch to relay signs to players. In the fantasy players’ view, the letter showed that MLB knew the cheating was occurring, didn’t stop it and let bettors to wager money without knowing the results were tainted. We’ll see if the Yankees have any success with this. But they are confusing two concepts. While the letter may be irrelevant for purposes of the lawsuit, that ruling doesn’t put it off limits to the public.

Forget 2017 American League Rookie of the Year. I’m asking . which guy would you rather have on your team for the next 15 seasons? We love these Yankee-Red Sox mano-a-manos. It’s as old as the rivalry itself. Joe DiMagggio came to the bigs in 1936. Ted Williams burst on the scene three years later. Throughout the 1940s, it was a raging argument. We were even led to believe that the respective owners of the Sox and Yankees once made a late-night swap while in a drunken haze. The alleged trade was called off by dawn’s early light. Remember when the Sox had Carlton Fisk and the Yanks had Thurman Munson? New York’s grumpy catcher was a league MVP before his career was tragically cut short when he crashed his plane in 1979. Fisk went on to become a Hall of Famer. Don Mattingly and Wade Boggs were rivals of sorts in the 1980s and who can forget those early years of this new century when Nomar Garciaparra vs. Derek Jeter was a real debate. Now we have Judge and Benintendi. Big Poison and Little Poison. It’s 6 feet 7 inches and 282 pounds vs. 5-10 and 170. It’s not about Rookie of the Year anymore. Even though he is playing as badly as anyone can play at the moment, Judge pretty much retired the rookie trophy with his ridiculous first half.
