Serving the Specialty 2013-2014 ANNUAL REPORT American Association of Endodontists 2013-2014 ANNUAL REPORT Serving the Specialty Page 2 of 17 Dear Colleagues, Service is a concept that AAE members know well—it is at the very core of what we do every day. Our work serves our patients, our students, our communities and the endodontic specialty at large. I’m inspired by your dedication, and it’s been my honor to serve you as your president for the 2013-2014 year. Serving the specialty is at the core of the AAE’s mission as well. As you’ll see in this annual report, the AAE’s commitment to moving endodontics forward is evident in all its activities. Its continuing education programs offer expert speakers on in-demand topics to AAE members, elevating the competency of our profession. Outreach resources, like the root canal safety webpage and patient education videos, help dispel damaging myths and communicate endodontists’ value to patients and referring dentists. Advocacy efforts give dentistry a seat at the table with federal and state legislators and dental insurers. And the AAE’s volunteer leadership helps the Association stay ahead of the rapidly changing professional landscape, technologies and member needs. Navigating such change requires flexibility and decisive leadership. Following the resignation of the AAE’s executive director last fall, I accepted the role of acting executive director and worked closely with the Board of Directors on the search to fill the position. Spending time each week at AAE Headquarters was eye opening, as I saw the extent of the staff’s exceptional work to support AAE members. I am confident that their service to the Association will continue to flourish under the guidance of our new executive director, Peter S. Weber. As I transition into retirement, I sincerely thank you all for your commitment to the AAE. Your membership and continued support ensures the success and strength of our specialty. With gratitude, Gary R.
