The White Rose Academies Trust Welcomes Mill Field Primary Academy WELCOME MILL FIELD PRIMARY ACADEMY AND THE LOCAL COMMUNITY THE WHITE ROSE ACADEMIES TRUST WELCOMES MILL FIELD PRIMARY ACADEMY ON 1 DECEMBER 2020, MILL FIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL FORMALLY JOINED THE WHITE ROSE ACADEMIES TRUST AS A SPONSORED ACADEMY. Mill Field is the first primary school to join our family and we are working with the school on its journey to becoming a provider of world class levels of education. Our plans include: • Implementing a curriculum that is exciting for children and helps them to develop the character that enables them to cooperate, collaborate and to develop the skills to become model citizens of the future. • Improving the quality of teaching so that every child, in every classroom, enjoys their learning and can make great progress. • Developing provision for those students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, ensuring every child receives targeted support. • Improving the experience for all children and ensuring that they enjoy school, feel safe and attend well. 2 Mill Field Primary Academy MEET OUR PRINCIPAL MISS RHODES Hello, my name is Miss Rhodes and I joined Mill Field Primary Academy as Principal in January 2021. Simply turn off Potternewton Lane, and you will find our wonderful school, with its lush green spaces and a whole world of possibilities. My previous role was as Head of School at Bowling Park Primary School in Bradford, where my dedicated team and I transformed the school to be in the top 2% of schools nationally for progress. I’m extremely excited to take Mill Field on its own journey of transformation, which includes site renovations, an engaging new curriculum, developing outstanding teachers and a new rebrand to be launched in September 2021. If I have not met you already, then I hope to meet you very soon, whether that is at one of our community events or for a discussion about your child’s education. I am delighted that as a member of our community you are on this special journey with us. Miss Rhodes Principal Welcome Brochure 3 OUR JOURNEY OF TRANSFORMATION MILL FIELD PRIMARY ACADEMY Here at Mill Field Primary Academy we are embarking on a journey, not only to transform children’s lives, but to help benefit parents, carers and the local community. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we are already making huge progress. Here is a brief overview of what we have been focusing on since joining the White Rose Academies Trust: IMPROVED BUILDING AND FACILITIES The Trust has enabled us to apply for a significant government grant to improve our building and help us create an outstanding learning environment. This includes significant improvements to the structure of our main building. We are also working on improving our outdoor spaces with a new running track and a new car park. We now have a Community Hub inside school which is available for use by local groups and organisations. 4 Mill Field Primary Academy TRAINING AND DEVELOPING OUR STAFF As a key member of the White Rose Academies Trust and Luminate Education Group, we can also benefit from the skills of specialist teachers and leaders that make up the 450 staff at the Trust. We have a well-established and varied package, which is driven by the latest educational research and open to all staff at any career stage. Colleagues train with us, grow with us and progress with us. A NEW CHAPTER FOR OUR SCHOOL The Central Trust team have been consulting with staff, students, parents/carers, and governing representatives to help develop a full rebrand for our school. This includes a new name, a new logo and new uniforms for all pupils, which will be provided by the Trust free of charge. Welcome Brochure 5 ETHOS AND VALUES We enable children to believe they can aspire to great heights and BELIEVE achieve remarkable success. We belong to a community where all members are accepted for who BELONG they are. We deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum that ensures children will BECOME become model citizens of the future. CURRICULUM INTENT The curriculum at Mill Field has been designed to make the connections in children’s learning, which will enable all pupils to make informed choices about their future ambitions and goals. By carefully mapping and sequencing the knowledge that is taught, pupils will be able to make the progress needed to be ready for the next stage in their education. Through our curriculum we will foster a love of reading in all pupils through access to high quality age-appropriate books. Each curriculum unit is rooted in these books and all learning opportunities are planned from these books. Children will leave Year 6 as avid, fluent, independent readers. Next year, we will introduce our Global Curriculum, which will prepare pupils for the realities of the real world. It will teach them skills such as resolving conflict, regulating emotions, improving self-esteem, and handling finances. It will also give the children opportunities to work together to look more deeply into issues that affect their lives locally, nationally and globally. 6 Mill Field Primary Academy EARLY YEARS PLACES AVAILABLE NOW! Our ref: 0980/19 I am sending this request under the Freedom of Information Act on Tuesday February 12th 2019 to ask for the following information about knife possession offences broken down by age, gender and year. (I am most interested in people under 18 carrying knives). Please provide the following information: 1. The number of knife / bladed instrument possession offences for a) 2014 b) 2015 c) 2016 d) 2017 e) 2018 f) please provide a breakdown by gender. 2. For the same time period and giving the figures for each year - how many of those offenders were under 18? Please include: a) the exact age for each person under 18. b) the gender of each person under 18. c) whether the offender was caught carrying a knife or bladed object on school / educational premises? If possible, please provide the name of the school / establishment. d) A breakdown by sentence / punishment – i.e. people cautioned, reprimanded or convicted. My report is focusing on the number of women under 18 caught carrying knifes. So the gender breakdown is really important, as are the exact ages for those caught who are under 18. If including convictions is an over cost response – then omit those from your response and proceed with this amended request. Please see the attached tables which contain the requested information. West Yorkshire Police are committed to prosecuting anyone found to be possessing or using a knife or firearm. The work of our partners and community based projects is important, as is the vigilance of families who believe one of their relatives may carry weapons.

Main Issues The purpose of this report is to set out the demand for the creation of new secondary school places for September 2020 and seek approval for authority to spend and to incur capital expenditure on the projects associated with meeting that demand as part of the Council’s Learning Places Programme, notably: Cockburn Academy and Leeds City Academy. Since 2009, Leeds City Council’s Learning Places Programme has created over 11,500 primary school places across the city in response to rising birth rates which increased from 7,500 per year in 2001 to a peak of 10,350 in 2012. For the academic year starting in September 2018, a total of 1,600 new primary learning places were created to meet the continued demand and in 2019 315 were delivered. Since the peak in 2012 the birth rate has been declining resulting in the requirement for fewer permanent primary places and a decrease in the number of temporary or bulge solutions.
