Simply turn off Potternewton Lane, and you will find our wonderful school, with its lush green spaces and a whole world of possibilities. My previous role was as Head of School at Bowling Park Primary School in Bradford, where my dedicated team and I transformed the school to be in the top 2% of schools nationally for progress. I’m extremely excited to take Mill Field on its own journey of transformation, which includes site renovations, an engaging new curriculum, developing outstanding teachers and a new rebrand to be launched in September 2021. If I have not met you already, then I hope to meet you very soon, whether that is at one of our community events or for a discussion about your child’s education. I am delighted that as a member of our community you are on this special journey with us. Miss Rhodes Principal Welcome Brochure 3 OUR JOURNEY OF TRANSFORMATION MILL FIELD PRIMARY ACADEMY Here at Mill Field Primary Academy we are embarking on a journey, not only to transform children’s lives, but to help benefit parents, carers and the local community. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we are already making huge progress. Here is a brief overview of what we have been focusing on since joining the White Rose Academies Trust: IMPROVED BUILDING AND FACILITIES The Trust has enabled us to apply for a significant government grant to improve our building and help us create an outstanding learning environment. This includes significant improvements to the structure of our main building. We are also working on improving our outdoor spaces with a new running track and a new car park. We now have a Community Hub inside school which is available for use by local groups and organisations. 4 Mill Field Primary Academy TRAINING AND DEVELOPING OUR STAFF As a key member of the White Rose Academies Trust and Luminate Education Group, we can also benefit from the skills of specialist teachers and leaders that make up the 450 staff at the Trust. We have a well-established and varied package, which is driven by the latest educational research and open to all staff at any career stage. Colleagues train with us, grow with us and progress with us. A NEW CHAPTER FOR OUR SCHOOL The Central Trust team have been consulting with staff, students, parents/carers, and governing representatives to help develop a full rebrand for our school. This includes a new name, a new logo and new uniforms for all pupils, which will be provided by the Trust free of charge. Welcome Brochure 5 ETHOS AND VALUES We enable children to believe they can aspire to great heights and BELIEVE achieve remarkable success. We belong to a community where all members are accepted for who BELONG they are. We deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum that ensures children will BECOME become model citizens of the future. CURRICULUM INTENT The curriculum at Mill Field has been designed to make the connections in children’s learning, which will enable all pupils to make informed choices about their future ambitions and goals. By carefully mapping and sequencing the knowledge that is taught, pupils will be able to make the progress needed to be ready for the next stage in their education. Through our curriculum we will foster a love of reading in all pupils through access to high quality age-appropriate books. Each curriculum unit is rooted in these books and all learning opportunities are planned from these books. Children will leave Year 6 as avid, fluent, independent readers. Next year, we will introduce our Global Curriculum, which will prepare pupils for the realities of the real world. It will teach them skills such as resolving conflict, regulating emotions, improving self-esteem, and handling finances. It will also give the children opportunities to work together to look more deeply into issues that affect their lives locally, nationally and globally. 6 Mill Field Primary Academy EARLY YEARS PLACES AVAILABLE NOW!
