    ANiC Newsletter 22 November 2010 Handle with prayer News – ANiC and AEN Welcome Mill Bay church plant! Christ Church of the Valley (Mill Bay, BC) is ANiC’s 40 th official church plant/parish. The new congregation is lead by the Rev Andrew Hewlett – one of our Morning Prayer preachers at Synod. BC Court of Appeal gives mixed decision The BC Court of Appeal issued its decision from the September 13-16 hearing, agreeing with four Vancouver area ANiC parishes on issues of law, but still dismissing their appeal. The parishes, St John’s (Vancouver), St Matthews (Abbotsford), Good Shepherd (Vancouver), and St Matthias & St Luke’s (Vancouver), had appealed a 25 November 2009 decision of Mr Justice Stephen Kelleher awarding beneficial ownership of church properties to the Diocese of New Westminster in the case involving the split in the Anglican Church. The Diocese of New Westminster’s counter appeal of Mr Justice Kelleher’s decision granting a bequest (worth approx. $2M) to the ANiC congregation of the Church of the Good Shepherd was also dismissed. Special Counsel Cheryl Chang says: “In my view, the court did not give due consideration to some critical evidence on issues of doctrine, Anglican hierarchy and authority. Mdm Justice Newbury states (at para 75), “it is antithetical to the nature of Anglicanism to contemplate “Anglican ministry” in a parish that has withdrawn from the authority of its diocese and bishop”. However, this ignores the Windsor Report which stated clearly and unequivocally, in reference to this diocese and bishop, that it was more antithetical to Anglicanism for a bishop and diocese to act “unilaterally… in breach of the legitimate application of the Christian faith as the churches of the Anglican Communion have received it ”.

    CNI September 11 Anti-abortion clinic said to be opening in Belfast The Archbishop of Canterbury with the Bishops of South America C of I, Presbyterian and Methodist Churches welcome new Education legislation in NI A statement issued by the Boards of education of the C of I, Presbyterian and Methodist Churches - The Transferor Churches welcome the agreement today by the Executive that legislation will be drafted to establish a single body to replace the five Education and Library Boards. It is good that a way forward has been found to place the future of educational administration on a secure footing and to remove the current uncertainty. The Transferors also warmly welcome the Executive’s agreement that the proposed Bill will include an additional provision to fund a new body to support Controlled schools. At their annual meetings of General Synod, Page 1 CNI September 11 General Assembly and Conference earlier this year, the three Transferor Churches expressed deep concern at the continued disadvantaged position of Controlled schools and called on the Minister to create a body to support and advocate for the Controlled sector. The Churches are pleased that he and his Executive colleagues have responded and acknowledge the support of those parties whose work over the years has enabled such a positive development. The establishment of this new body will correct a deficit in the education system which has existed for decades and will enable Controlled schools to feel they now have an advocate body to work alongside them to bring about continued improvement in educational outcomes for children and young people.

  • The Windsor Report
    The Lambeth Commission - Reception Windsor Report Reception Process The work of the Lambeth Commission on Communion was commissioned by the Archbishop of Canterbury in October 2003, following the special meeting of the Primates and Moderators of the Anglican Communion at Lambeth Palace in that month. The official process of reception for the Windsor Report 2004 therefore began in February 2005 during the regular meeting of the Primates and Moderators which was held in February 20th - 26th in Northern Ireland. In order to prepare for this meeting, the Archbishop of Canterbury, in conjunction with the Primates' Standing Committee, appointed a Reception Reference Group (RRG), under the chairmanship of the Most Revd Peter Kwong, then Primate of Hong Kong, to assist the Primates by monitoring the way in which the Windsor Report had been received across the Anglican Communion and by our ecumenical partners. In a letter to the Provinces, Archbishop Peter wrote, "My hope is really to be able to gain some sense of where Anglicans, Episcopalians and members of the United Churches stand on the issues raised in the Report, and the recommendations made...This is a formidable challenge but I feel it is vital that the Primates are able to have the widest and best possible information for their meeting next February."     2020 ANNUAL REPORT POWERFUL PARTNERSHIPS TRANSFORMING OUR WORLD 1 DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST, At the very beginning of the Anglican Church in North America, Archbishop Bob Duncan stated that ARDF was launched with the goal of providing “objective philanthropy” for the Global Anglican Communion. The core of ARDF has not veered from this goal for more than 15 years. We have worked diligently to be an excellent resource to proven partners all over the world. ARDF is honored to continue to be the Anglican Church in Action, committed to relief and development work done in an excellent way based upon best practices and under Godly, diverse leadership. Thank you for your continued support of our vision that powerful partnerships can transform our world. Because of your support, we have provided more than $11.3 million in funding for 201 development projects in 38 countries touching nearly 1.4 million lives in Anglican communities around the world. In addition, since 2004, a total of $2.9 million has been donated to those suffering disasters worldwide, including in the United States. We praise the Lord that ARDF-US has undergone a smooth leadership transition. Canon Bill Deiss retired in June 2020, after years of building a very strong and healthy foundation. After a robust search process, we hired The Rev. Dr. Jake Stum as the new Executive Director. His education, experience, and passion fit so well with our mission and goals. Jake is a proven leader, and we are excited to see what the Lord does through his leadership. He, the staff, and the board have already begun setting some big goals so that ARDF can make an even more significant impact for Christ in the world.
