Moleboheng Chaha . - Emerald Resort & Casino in Vander- bijlpark has once again made an effort to touch the lives of people in need. This comes after they donated a R50 000 cheque as well as clothes to new born babies at the Sebokeng Regional Hospital on International Nelson Mandela Day which took place last week Thursday. Gloria Mokoana who is the Learning and Development Manager as well as the chairperson for the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) at Emerald Resort & Casino said that the gesture was all about keeping Mandela’s legacy alive. “Knowing that Mandela loved kids, we thought that it was important to do something that would impact children’s lives in a positive way. Some kids are born without basic necessities, this is why we thought we would just give something to new mothers on this day.” Mokoana said that the act in itself was a way to show the community that Emerald is not only about making money but also touching people’s lives. “The money will go towards something the hospital really needs. I know it is not a lot but it will surely help.” Sebokeng Regional Hospital’s Acting CEO, Mrs Makibiti Madolo says,” As the hospital, we would like to express our gratitude for Emerald’s contribution Emerald Resort & Casino in Vanderbijlpark commemorated the Nelson Mandela International Day by handing over towards the success of Sebokeng Regional Hospital.” a R50 000 cheque to Sebokeng Hospital last week. The school opened the doors of the Gary Mann Library to learners since February this year. Midvaal Local Municipality Executive Mayor and former learner of the school, Bongani Baloyi, officially opened the library. Baloyi says, “I had the great pleasure tonight to open the new Gary Mann Library at my former school Hoërskool Drie Riviere. I hope this library opens the minds and liberates the young people who have access to it. What an honour for me. I wish the school all the best.” In attendence were learners, staff, the SGB, special guests and the community at large. School Princi- pal, Adele van der Merve says, “We would like to extend our gratitude to members of the community who played a role in the existence of the library to most notably, Rotary Vereeniging and the Mann family, after whom the library is named.” To date, a total number of 1 227 books have been loaned to learners with 337 active borrowers which is very close to half the school. “Looking at the future, the school wishes to install WiFi capability, an E-book loaning system, and expand to a fully functioning Media Centre.” Van der Merve said that in the coming year, the school would like to open the library to its parents, Midvaal Local Municipality Mayor, Bongani Baloyi, and the Midvaal Local Municipality followed by access for the broader community.
