Von Celente was born into an Italian American family in the Bronx, New York. He had early political experience working in the mayoral campaign in Yonkers, New York, and served as executive assistant secretary of the New York State Senate. (when?) From 1973 to 1979, Celente traveled between major U.S. cities Chicago, Illinois and Washington, D.C., as a government specialist. In 1980, Selente founded the Trend Research Institute (originally called the Institute for Social and Economic Research of America), which is now based in Kingston, New York, the publisher of Trends Journal, which predicts and analyzes business, socioeconomic, political and other trends. Forecasting his forecasts since 1993 included predictions of terrorism, economic collapse and war. More recent projections are related to fascism in the United States, food riots and tax riots. Celente has long predicted global anti-Americanism, a failed economy, and immigration woes in the United States. In 2009, Celente predicted the upheavals he described as Obamacare, and he was a popular guest on conservative cable television shows such as Fox News Sunday and Glenn Beck's television program. In April 2009, Celente wrote: Wall Street controls our financial life; the media is manipulating our minds. These systems cannot be changed from within. There is no alternative. Without revolution, these institutions will ruin the country, continue to fight failed wars, start new ones and keep us in constant intellectual submission. Celente said, smaller communities, smaller groups, smaller states, more self-sustaining communities, will withstand a crisis in class as big cities and hypertrophic suburbs descend into poverty and conflict, and predict America's shrinking. Hugo Lindgren and ABC News called Celente's predictions pessimism for their demise and the perceived eschatological excitement that some people get from imagining his predictions of the collapse of civil society after the global economic crisis.
