As you know the European Parliament has been pushing for public CBCR in different occasions1with wide majorities, including recently in the report on the Shareholders' Rights Directive, in the report of2 the special committee on Tax Rulings and Other Measures3 Similar in Nature or Effect and in the legislative initiative report on corporate taxation . Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in the EU, but it is also the wealthiest per capita. Following Italy and Latvia, Luxembourg is the third in this Presidency Trio, and will be the second full Presidency to work with the new Commission headed by compatriot and former Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker. Luxembourg is the seat of several major institutions such as the European Court of Justice, the European Investment Bank, and the Court of Auditors. Attitude toward the EU Luxembourg is one of the six founding members of the European Union and has historically played a key role in its formation. -

Frans Timmermans Cc: Günther Oettinger, Jyrki Katainen, Karmenu Vella and Phil Hogan European Commission Rue de la Loi / Wetstraat 200 1049 Brussels 20th March 2018 Dear First Vice-President Timmermans, We are writing to you as civil society representatives (environmental NGOs, farmers, food movements, and animal welfare groups) regarding the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform, following recent details given in Commission presentations to the Council and the Parliament on its substance, in particular the common EU objectives. 1) We would like to recall that for the next CAP to be truly results-oriented, make effective and efficient use of EU taxpayers’ money, and respond to citizens’ demands to better protect our natural resources, ensure the welfare of farmed animals and ensure many and diversified farms, the EU objectives should be specific, measurable and time-bound so that progress towards them can be properly monitored.1 2) Unfortunately we are very concerned that the objectives will be very general and vague, which will make it very easy for Member States to systematically choose the least ambitious measures without facing adequate monitoring or control—as experienced with the last reform’s ‘greening’, which added complexity and completely failed to address the challenges facing the sector. 3) Furthermore, objectives focussed on increasing production—such as ‘food security’—are not only unjustified in the context of overproduction and overconsumption in Europe, especially of animal products, but also risk undermining other objectives on the long-term resilience of the sector, the environment, animal welfare, climate, human health and fair income for the smallest and most sustainable farms. -

Parkerz Frances Zlotnickx May 6, 2015 Abstract A large literature argues that parties' brands affect congressional elections. Legislators engage in a marketing effort to cultivate their own party's brand and to destroy the other party's reputa- tion. All legislators may benefit from an improved party brand, but legislators have differential incentives to contribute to the brand. We show how the variable incentives cause a distortion in a party's marketing efforts. Using text as data tools and a new collection of legislators' statement, we provide new measures of how legislators engage in party branding. Using these measures, we show extremists disproportionately contribute to the party marketing efforts, particularly when their party does not hold the presidency. This disproportionate contribution matters because extreme legislators offer more hyperbolic criticism of the other party. This year, the 11th Hessian Wine Festival will take place on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 7 pm at the Representation of the State of Hessen to the EU in Brussels. With our annual Wine Festival we bring together politicians, representatives from the EU- institutions and Member States, businessmen, academics, journalists and representatives of civil society in order to spend some pleasant moments apart from everyday business. As in past years we will welcome around 1000 guests. We look forward to taste a fine selection of local wines presented by winegrowers of the two Hessian wine growing areas (Rheingau and Hessische Bergstraße) and various local products with the label "Protected Designation of Origin" (PDO, PGI, TSG). It is also a tradition that the event is inaugurated by the Minister in charge of European Affairs and as highlight by a Member of the European Commission, such as in the past years the Commissioners Mariann Fischer Boel, Viviane Reding, Olli Rehn, Johannes Hahn and Günther H. INTRODUCTION Forge, quench, strengthen the Marxist-Leninist Party . It was under this title that a series of articles appeared in "La Voix du Peuple", a weekly of the Communist Party of Belgium, between June 24 and August 12, 1966, designed to meet the needs of the ideological struggle and current politics within the Party at that time. This pamphlet brings together these articles. Some editorial changes have been made and some additions have been made. The first article appeared on the third anniversary of the Extraordinary Congress of the Brussels Federation of the Communist Party which reconstituted it on the basis of Marxism-Leninism. This first chapter shows by the concrete example of a regional Party, that of the capital, the importance of the ideological and political struggle within the Party, the difficulties encountered and the successes achieved. This chapter also constitutes a controversy with certain comrades who underestimated this ideological and political struggle. The second chapter shows that the ideological and political struggle within the Party is an integral, indispensable part of the whole of the ideological and political struggle of the Party, of all of its activity. -

SPEAKERS, MODERATORS, RAPPORTEURS SPEAKER Nikos Christodoulides served as Director of the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Spokesperson of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Cyprus in Greece and Director of the Office of Cyprus in the United Kingdom. Prior to his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs on 1 March 2018, he served as Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President of the Republic of Cyprus (2013-2018) and Government Spokesman (2014-2018). He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Economics, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies from City University of New York, with postgraduate studies in Political Science at the same University and Diplomatic Studies at the University of Malta. He also holds a doctorate from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the University of Athens. Moreover, he is the author of Plans for Solution of the Cyprus Problem 1948-1978 and Relations between Athens and Nicosia and the Cyprus Problem, 1977-1988. SPEAKER Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni was elected Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe in June 2012. In June 2015, she has been re-elected for a second 5-years mandate, starting on 1st September 2015. From October 2011 to August 2012 she held the position of the Director General of Programmes and from 2004 to 2011 she was the Director General of Education, Culture and Heritage, Youth and Sport. As part of her professional trajectory at the Council of Europe, she held positions of Coordinator for Intercultural Dialogue, Director General of Social Cohesion, Director of Social Affairs and Health, Head of Service at Research and Planning Unit and Head of Service at Directorate of Education, Culture and Sport.
