City Commission Meeting City Hall Commission Chambers Monday, April 16, 2018 7:00 p.m. MEETING #5095 Warrior Project – Biogas Facility Ribbon Cutting DODGE CITY, Ks. — The City of Dodge City is set to host a ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of the Warrior Project Biogas Facility on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10:30 am. The ribbon cutting will take place at the project site located at 11079 Warrior Road, Dodge City, Kansas and a reception will follow at Boot Hill Museum in the Long Branch Saloon. In 1984; the City of Dodge City’s South Wastewater Treatment Plant was completed, with an expansion project completed in 2004. The wastewater treatment plant is a non-discharging facility that treats 5.7 million gallons of waste water a day. Wastewater to the plant comes from National Beef Packing and municipal waste. An anaerobic digestion process produces raw biogas at an average rate of 1.6 million cubic feet of biogas per day. “That number can rise to over 2.25 million cubic feet of biogas per day in the summer months,” said Ray Slattery, Director of Engineering for the City of Dodge City. “For the past 14 years since the completion of an expansion project, City staff has been looking for ways to utilize the raw bio-gas the plant creates.” Utilizing the by-product from the water treatment plant for useful means has the potential to produce revenue as well as cut City expenses, Slattery said. In March 2016, two years after first requesting proposals for biogas reuse, the City of Dodge City selected Eco-Engineers to spearhead the project. During that same month Jacobs, formerly known as CH2m Hill and the operators of the City’s waste water treatment plants, agreed to operate the Warrior Biogas Reuse Project. When a final agreement could not be made with Eco-Engineers due to guarantee issues the City cut ties and decided to take on the project on its own. Since then, many agreements have been made ranging from design and construction to the marketing and sale of the purified biogas. Construction of the plant started in August 2017. As of February 2018, the facility started producing pipeline quality biomethane to be sold as a transportation fuel. “The potential the Warrior project brings will be an immense benefit to our community as a whole,” said Cherise Tieben, City Manager for the City of Dodge City. “The revenue generated will help pay down existing debt, go towards deferred maintenance of infrastructure and help fund future capital improvement projects. As well as being another way for Dodge City to utilize resources in an effort to further our stewardship of the environment.” There will be a short ceremony at the Biogas Facility site prior to the ribbon cutting. Come out and hear from the companies involved with the project, local legislators, and staff. Short tours will also be available for the public to learn more about the facility. Be sure to allow for a minimum of 15 minutes to get to the site. This time is an estimate based on travel time from City Hall to the facility. Directions to the Biogas Facility site: From the 4 Way Stop intersection of US 283 & US 56/400 at the south edge of Dodge City, proceed south 9 miles to Warrior Rd. Turn Right onto Warrior Rd. Go west approximately 1/3 of a mile to the Warrior Project location on the south side of the road. The address of the plant is 11079 Warrior Rd., Dodge City, Ks. • Twisted Trails of the Wold West by Matthew Baugh © 2006
Twisted Trails of the Wold West By Matthew Baugh © 2006 The Old West was an interesting place, and even more so in the Wold- Newton Universe. Until fairly recently only a few of the heroes and villains who inhabited the early western United States had been confirmed through crossover stories as existing in the WNU. Several comic book miniseries have done a lot to change this, and though there are some problems fitting each into the tapestry of the WNU, it has been worth the effort. Marvel Comics’ miniseries, Rawhide Kid: Slap Leather was a humorous storyline, parodying the Kid’s established image and lampooning westerns in general. It is best known for ‘outing’ the Kid as a homosexual. While that assertion remains an open issue with fans, it isn’t what causes the problems with incorporating the story into the WNU. What is of more concern are the blatant anachronisms and impossibilities the story offers. We can accept it, but only with the caveat that some of the details have been distorted for comic effect. When the Rawhide Kid is established as a character in the Wold-Newton Universe he provides links to a number of other western characters, both from the Marvel Universe and from classic western novels and movies. It draws in the Marvel Comics series’ Blaze of Glory, Apache Skies, and Sunset Riders as wall as DC Comics’ The Kents. As with most Marvel and DC characters there is the problem with bringing in the mammoth superhero continuities of the Marvel and DC universes, though this is not insurmountable.

In hopes she could produce some edible fare Daddy and I were hiding in my room under the bed, while visions of cooking disasters danced in our heads, My mother was frantic, her baking skills were the worst, Why hadn't she just called the bakery from the first? When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, Daddy and I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window we flew like a flash, tore mini blinds and poked a hole in the sash The moon on the breast of the lawn never mowed, gave the luster of mid-day to the toys scattered below. When what to our wondering eyes should appear? Burnt pie crust toppers shaped like reindeer. With a chef quickly following, tossing pies without care, I knew in a moment Mom was pulling out her hair. More rapid than eagles, her pies they all came. And she swore and she cursed and she tossed without shame. Now Pumpkin, Now Sweet Potato! Now Raisin Cranberry! On Apple! On Mincemeat! Cavalier Cowboys September 6, 2020 Stages by Ripsaw The Long Branch Saloon The Long Branch Saloon was a well-known saloon in Dodge City, Kansas from about 1874 to 1885. It had numerous owners, most notably Chalk Beeson and gunfighter Luke Short. The establishment provided gambling and live entertainment, including Beeson's five-person orchestra. It was the scene of several altercations, shoot-outs, gunfights, and standoffs often associated with cattle towns in the American wild west. Most famous was the 1879 Long Branch Saloon Gunfight, in which Frank Loving killed Levi Richardson. Chalkley Beeson, a wealthy farmer and rancher, and William Harris bought the saloon in 1878. Harris named it after his hometown of Long Branch, New Jersey.[2] It was a plain storefront bar with little ornamentation, typical for frontier saloons of the time. The saloon prospered until the railroad replaced the cattle drive. The establishment burned down in 1885 and was never rebuilt.
