Ar. Yashwant Mistry

In the Indian context, the pressures to modernize were acutely realized after the British left. The issue of Formal Roots in the context of Contemporary Indian Architecture were largely unanswered. Few architects recognized the need for such a quest and fewer made a deliberate attempt to explore the possibility in their work. One of them are amidst us today morning. Ar. Yashwant Mistry, is a contemporary to that generation of architects who have sought to give modern architecture in a footing at the international level. Trained under the watchful eye of his father, Mistry ji acquired his education like a classical architect would have during Renaissance. A qualified painter from the JJ school of arts, he graduated in architecture from the MSU, Baroda. Unconventionality and Perfection do not go hand in hand but Mistry ji accomplishes both in almost all his works. An avid designer, he believes and dreams of a world where all objects of daily use would be designed vigorously. His utopian and idealist notions are often expressed in his designs. His dedication and zeal to architecture comes from his strong belief in a timelessness of an architectural work. Dr. Y.K Alagh

Dr. Yoginder K Alagh is a noted Indian economist and former Union Minister of Government of India. He was the Chairman of Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) from 2006 to 2012. He has been appointed as the Chancellor of the Central University of Gujarat, Gandhinagar. He studied at Maharaja's College, Jaipur and Department of Economics at University of . He holds a doctorate in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, USA. He has also taught Economics at the University of Rajasthan, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, University of Jodhpur, Swarthmore College and the University of Pennsylvania. He has acted as the 7th Vice-Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Also founding member of Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology(CEPT). Dr. Alagh's professional experience is related to research, policy- making and administration of large research/policy formulation professional groups relating to macro policy and planning, industrial policies and reform, and agricultural planning and policy. He is extensively published in India and abroad and was Trustee Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Chairman IRMA and Independent Director of Tata Chemicals. He is currently Independent Director of Shree Cements, Somany Ceramics and Star Agri. He has been a senior adviser to Food and Agriculture Organization, United Nations Development Programme, International Labour Organization,World Bank, and Chair of the Scientific Steering Committee of UNESCO's Social Science Research Programme (MOST), Member Council of United Nations University, Senior Fellow, World Institute of Development Research (WIDER) and Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo. He writes a column for the Express Group and the Business Line.
