We have our next meeting on June 26th at 11am. It is an open meeting Barry Michaud for those interested. We have been working hard developing a project plan to address issues that have been identified by the UMass Boston Needs Board Members Assessment using our survey as affirmation of keys areas of interest for improvement, unique to our small community. Buffy Colt - Chairman One area of great interest includes building better neighborhood Regina Baker - Vice Chair networks. We are working on grid mapping the town and identifying logical resident groupings to introduce the idea of a neighborhood coffee hosted by a Stephanie Mark - Secretary resident within one of our 20 geographic areas. We have completed the Diana Lang mapping and have census data to help us begin to develop a strategy. Please Alyson Preston call me if you're interested or have any ideas concerning our agenda. Susan Doughty We additionally are focused on Open Space and Affordable Housing. We Francois Wilhelm plan to play an active role in the implementation of the Open Space planning Dorothy Goudie committees 5 year plan. Essentially that means just always taking into consideration older adults for things like placement of benches and other Karen D’Amour considerations which would improve conditions for older adults. On Affordable Friends of COA Housing we are playing an active role attending events in area cities and towns who are actively looking at improvements and open dialog about this issue. Wendy Campbell - Great strides have been made by the task force looking at improving President Communication and Information dissemination. A sampling of ideas include; Rick Quinn - Treasurer, thinking about locations and institutions who can help us get the word out on Sue Cooke - Secretary, how to get and/or remain active after retirement for those interested. Posting volunteer opportunities, building vetted homeowner services & resources, Tom Tanous identifying learning opportunities, art & cultural happenings, identifying and Paul Mendonca developing helpful free financial and legal resources and finally building a better Marianne Cannon health and social service safety net are just some of the ideas we’re discussing. Low Vision Group: The Hamilton-Wenham LVG will meet on Thursday, July 18. As a special event, the group will meet at the Wenham COA, 10 School St, Wenham, at 11:45 am for lunch and conversation focusing on cataracts, to continue our series of vision topics. Anyone concerned about cataracts, or recently diagnosed with cataracts, is welcome to join us to share experience, tips, and resources. Claudia Filos of Full Circle Memoirs will run a writing workshop this fall at the COA focused on helping our veterans tell their unique stories.
