Time, Elements and the Phoenix Hour in Lives and Poetry of Nobel Laureates and their Celestial Twins. Elizabetha Levin Haifa, Israel E-mail: [email protected] We see that human creativity and innovation can be understood as the amplification of laws of nature… Ilya Prigogine {NL, Air} Abstract. In our times both the works and the biographies of the Nobel laureates {NL} are accessible to empirical study. Their biographic materials portray distinguished personalities as real people with their faults and weaknesses. Such biographic studies become available mainly because in our epoch the quality and quantity of psychological observation have increased dramatically. By opening the books of their own life stories, the Nobel laureates invite us to witness the circumstances of their growth and to gain a better understanding of the limits of free will and of "Zeitgeist" dynamics. Assuming that poetry is an even more valuable source of authors' attitudes towards life than their respective autobiographies, the Nobel laureates in Literature who were awarded their prizes explicitly for poetry, constitute the most informative group for biographical research. Furthermore, according to Alfred Nobel's will (1895), the poetry of the laureates should be also "the most outstanding work in an ideal direction." The ability of such laureates to inspire entire societies makes them attractive for historical research. This paper is a pioneer venture into temporology. It seamlessly blends three different types of time: calendar times, the primordial cycles of the elements and the factor of birth-time (the Theta-factor). To make this fusion possible, this essay opens with a brief Introduction written in four parts, each part being a thumbnail sketch of one of the following basic temporal aspects: definitions of time, the four elements, the Effect of the Celestial Twins (ECT) and the model of the Phoenix Clock. -

Paul McCartney from Wings through the 90's McCartney II Columbia FC‐36511 May 21, 1980 About ten years after recording McCartney by himself, Paul got several songs together and recorded them‐‐again alone‐‐on somewhat of a lark. Then Paul embarked on his ill‐fated 1980 tour of Japan (which resulted in his being jailed for drug possession). After returning to the safety of his own home, he was urged to release the album, and he did. The album contrasts well with McCartney, for this second production contains numerous instruments and electronic tricks that were not present on the 1970 release. Side One is particularly interesting. The solo version of "Coming Up" is followed by the fun track, "Temporary Secretary" (released as a single in England). The almost‐lament, "On the Way," is then succeeded by "Waterfalls," Paul's second (US) single from the album. "Bogey Music," from Side Two, is also a standout. John Lennon heard a song from McCartney II and thought that Paul sounded sad. When the album was released in the US, a bonus one‐sided single ‐‐ the hit version of "Coming Up"‐‐was included with the LP. This hit was enough to propel the album to the #3 position on the charts, during a time when disco was now on the wane. "Waterfalls" Columbia 1‐11335 Jul. 22, 1980 The lovely ballad about protectiveness was one of the standouts from McCartney II. After "Coming Up," it received the most airplay and the most positive response from Paul's friends. As a single, though, the song fared poorly, only reaching #83...one of Paul's worst showings to date. -

Take It Away (promotional film) The filming of the promotional video for 'Take It Away' took place at EMI's Elstree Studios in Boreham Wood and was directed by John MacKenzie. Six hundred members of the Wings Fun Club were invited along as a live audience to the filming, which took place on Wednesday 23 June 1982. The band comprised Paul on bass, Eric Stewart on lead, George Martin on electric piano, Ringo and Steve Gadd on drums, Linda on tambourine and the horn section from the Q Tips. In between the various takes of 'Take It Away' Paul and his band played several numbers to entertain the audience, including 'Lucille', 'Bo Diddley', 'Peggy Sue', 'Send Me Some Lovin", 'Twenty Flight Rock', 'Cut Across Shorty', 'Reeling And Rocking', 'Searching' and 'Hallelujah I Love Her So'. The promotional film made its debut on Top Of The Pops on Thursday 15 July 1982. René Galand, Saint-John Perse, poet of the universal Saint-John Perse was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1960. Most of the French writers who have won this prize wrote in prose: Romain Rolland, Anatole France, Bergson, Roger Martin du Gard, Gide, Mauriac, Camus, Sartre, Claude Simon. Sartre declined the award: accepting it would have against all his principles. It would have meant condoning the use of literature to give legitimacy to capitalistic institutions. One must recall, however that the first Nobel Prize ever given to a French writer went to a poet: Sully-Prudhomme, who is remembered mostly for a sonnet which appeals mostly to sentimental young persons: “ Le Vase brisé ” [The broken vase]. From Sully-Prudhomme to Saint-John Perse: in the span od half a century, the literary taste of members of the Nobel Academy has remarkably advanced. Saint-John Perse, as is well know, is the pen-name of Alexis Saint-Leger Leger. From the moment when he reached a high rank in the diplomatic service, he felt he had to make a complete separation between his official personality and his literary activity. But why did he choose such an Anglo-Saxon sounding pseudonym? Different explanations have been suggested. It is possible that Alexis Leger, who believes in the prophetic power of poets, was thinking of Saint-John the Baptist whose voice was heard in the desert. Others have indicated that “Saint-John” might come from the American writer of French descent Saint-Jean de Crèvecoeur. Others still, considering the West Indian origins of the poet, have thought that it might allude to the Caribbean island of Saint-John, or that perhaps it could be the English translation of the name of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. -

Through the analysis of data taken from orchestras across the country, I will examine why many organizations are folding and what some establishments have done to prevent further downfall. With this information, I will explicate the current understanding of classical music and then discover possible methods in securing future generations of audiences that will enjoy and support this genre. I will also explore the problems many composers and musicians face in creating a successful and lasting career and what these musicians can do to gain popularity with audiences who may not be musically trained. -

Russell ABSTRACT The author examined the motivation for why, and methods of how, some secondary social studies teachers incorporate women’s voices into the traditional history framework. A multi-layered qualitative methodology was employed for this study using survey, case study, and phenomenological approaches, including interviews and classroom observations of participants. Combining the formal precision of the Parnassian poets with subjects reflecting his keen interest in philosophy and his early training in the sciences, Sully Prudhomme forged a career that drew wide praise during his lifetime. According to C. D. af Wirsén of the Swedish Academy, writing on the occasion of the Nobel Award, "Sully Prudhomme is one of the major poets of our time, and some of his poems are pearls of imperishable value. [His] work reveals an inquiring and observing mind which finds no rest in what passes and which, as it seems impossible to him to know more, finds evidence of man's supernatural destiny in the moral realm, in the voice of conscience, and in the lofty and undeniable prescriptions of duty. Sully Prudhomme was once an important figure in French literature and hailed as the successor of Victor Hugo, but he is largely ignored and little read or written about today, in English or in French. He has utterly vanished from the canon. Even at the turn of the century, the choice of Sully Prudhomme for the Nobel caused some debate, as he had not published much poetry after 1888. -
