Peter Bjorn & John’s John Eriksson and Medicine’s Brad Laner guest. • National college and specialty radio campaign via AAM When Jack Tatum began work on Life of Pause, his third full-length to date, he had lofty ambitions: Don’t just write another album; create another world. One with enough detail and texture and dimension that a listener could step inside, explore, and inhabit it as they see fit. “I desperately wanted for this to be the kind of record that would displace me,” he says. “I’m terrified by the idea of being any one thing, or being of any one genre. And whether or not I accomplish that, I know that my only hope of getting there is to constantly reinvent. That reinvention doesn’t need to be drastic, but every new record has to have its own identity, and it has to have a separate set of goals from what came before.” What came before: a rightfully acclaimed, much beloved display of singular pop craftsman- CT-232 ship. Tatum’s dreamy, unexpected 2010 debut, Gemini, was written while he was still a stu- dent at Virginia Tech University. Its equally disarming follow-up, 2012’s Nocturne, marked the 01. Reichpop first time he’d been able to bring his bedroom recordings into a studio, to be performed and 02. Lady Blue fully realized with the help of other musicians. There has been a set of wonderfully expansive 03. A Woman’s Wisdom EPs in between—each hinting at new directions and punctuating previous ideas—but with Life 04. TV Queen 10. Whenever I After a prolonged period of writing and experimentation, recording took place over several 11. Love Underneath My Thumb weeks in both Los Angeles and Stockholm, with producer Thom Monahan (Devendra Banhart, Beachwood Sparks) helping Tatum in his search for a more natural and organically textured sound. In Sweden, in a studio once owned by ABBA, they enlisted Peter, Bjorn and John drummer John Ericsson and fellow Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra veteran TK, to contribute drums and marimba. In California, at Monahan’s home, Tatum collaborated with Medicine guitarist Brad Laner and a crew of saxophonists. From the hypnotic polyrhythms of “Reichpop” to the sugary howl of “Japanese Alice” to the hallucinogenic R&B of “A Woman’s LP UPC: 817949011772 Wisdom, the result is a complete, fully immersive listening environment. “I just kept things really LP FORMAT: 12” LP + MP3s simple, writing as ideas came to me,” he says. “There’s definitely a different kind of ‘self’ in the LP BOXLOT: 45 picture this time around. July 31, 2018 For Immediate Release Watch Wild Nothing’s “Letting Go” Video https://youtu.be/EuuT7HvrJF0 “A project that has virtually perfected the art of writing about romance" (Vulture), Jack Tatum’s Wild Nothing is gearing up for the release of its fourth album, Indigo. After a decade of making music as Wild Nothing, Indigo finds Tatum at his most efficient, calculated, and confident. Recorded at LA’s Sunset Sound and produced by Tatum and Jorge Elbrecht, it’s both a return to the fresh, transcendent sweep of his debut, 2010’s Gemini, and a culmination of heights reached, paths traveled, and lessons learned while creating the follow-ups, Nocturne and Life of Pause. Leading into its August 31st release via Captured Tracks, Wild Nothing returns to the “intoxicating, pristine cut of melancholy pop” (The AV Club) of lead single, “Letting Go,” via the official video. Directors Nathaniel Axel and David MacNutt comment, “Mourning, melodrama, psychedelic mushrooms, a bodybuilder, scarecrows, fetish rainwear, modernist architecture, catatonic schizophrenia, witchcraft, aquatherapy: Let It Go.” Watch “Letting Go” Video – https://youtu.be/EuuT7HvrJF0 Stream “Letting Go” – https://WildNothing.lnk.to/LettingGo Stream “Partners In Motion” – https://WildNothing.lnk.to/PartnersinMotion Pre-order Indigo – https://WildNothing.lnk.to/Indigo Praise for “Letting Go” and “Partners In Motion”: “[‘Partners In Motion’] a slower, moody cut with an almost voyueristic bent to its lyrics, it serves to introduce some of the horn noodling that sets Indigo apart from 2016’s Life of Pause, and every one of its frequencies is fine-tuned to Wild Nothing’s typically pristine and heavily ’80s-inspired production style.” — SPIN "'Partners in Motion' blends '80s new wave influences with gauzy dream-pop and flawless contemporary production styles.

  • Verso La Materia 'Pensante'
