For twenty years, he worked quietly and effectively as a teacher and principal in Sauges, an isolated village on a barren plateau in southern France. At his beatification, Pope Pius XII stressed that Benilde’s sanctification was attained by enduring “the terrible daily grind” and by “doing common things in an uncommon way.” As a young Brother, I remember listening to historian Br. Clair Battersby, FSC talk to us about St. Benilde. “There’s nothing to say” was repeated several times throughout his talk. Benilde had lived an ordinary life, but approached it with extraordinary faith and zeal. Over the years, Christian Brothers High School has been blessed with many teachers who have endured the “daily grind” of preparing classwork, correcting homework, papers and tests, coaching athletes, directing plays and concerts, accompanying students on field trips, and spending extra hours leading a variety of co-curricular activities.

GIVE BACK HOME CHRISTIAN BROTHERS HIGH SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT July 1, 2016 • June 30, 2017 1 FROM THE PRESIDENT 2 GIVE BACK HOME - CAMPAIGN FOR CBHS 3 GIFT ACTIVITY SUMMARY OFFICE OF INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT 4 2017–2018 BOARD MEMBERS 5 ANNUAL FUND GOAL 6 ANNUAL FUND TIMELINE 7 ANNUAL FUND SUMMARY, HISTORY 8 ANNUAL FUND - PARENTS 9 ANNUAL FUND - ALUMNI 10 ALUMNI PARTICIPATION 18 PARENT PARTICIPATION 21 CBHS COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION 25 HONOR ROLL OF GIVING 38 LEGACY SOCIETY 40 ENDOWMENTS 43 ENDOWMENT CONTRIBUTORS 44 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN GIVERS 46 MATCHING GIFTS GIFTS IN KIND 47 DESIGNATED GIFTS 50 CONSECUTIVE GIVING 55 HONORARIUMS AND MEMORIALS 64 EVENT SPONSORS Dear Friends, The sidewalk in front of the school is part of the original construction of the Walnut Grove Road campus from 1965. Over the years, it is slowly chipping away as a result of cars parking against it, weather, and the normal student traffic heading in and out of the buildings. For 15 years, I have annually found an excuse not to replace it. Parking lot resurfacing, renovations, and upcoming construction have been the reasons to not waste money on a “short-term” project. With the launch of our Give Back Home Campaign for Christian Brothers High School, we look to position CBHS and the Brothers to serve Memphis, deliver on our Lasallian mission and to remain a leader in a competitive private school landscape for years to come. This campaign is providing for academic programs and resources, new and updated facilities and resources to be shared by current and future students. With the completion of the first and silent phase of our Give Back Home Campaign, we saw the renovation to Heffernan Hall and our Brothers Residence, the construction of McEniry Hall to serve our STEMM program, and the capstone of the first phase in the Brothers Development Center that provides a first-class facility for our student- athletes.
