Over the years, it is slowly chipping away as a result of cars parking against it, weather, and the normal student traffic heading in and out of the buildings. For 15 years, I have annually found an excuse not to replace it. Parking lot resurfacing, renovations, and upcoming construction have been the reasons to not waste money on a “short-term” project. With the launch of our Give Back Home Campaign for Christian Brothers High School, we look to position CBHS and the Brothers to serve Memphis, deliver on our Lasallian mission and to remain a leader in a competitive private school landscape for years to come. This campaign is providing for academic programs and resources, new and updated facilities and resources to be shared by current and future students. With the completion of the first and silent phase of our Give Back Home Campaign, we saw the renovation to Heffernan Hall and our Brothers Residence, the construction of McEniry Hall to serve our STEMM program, and the capstone of the first phase in the Brothers Development Center that provides a first-class facility for our student- athletes. This academic year welcomes the addition of a new building which houses the Marr Department of Business and Economics. A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT The second phase of our Give Back Home campaign invites alumni, friends and families to join those who have already made commitments in the first phase to give back to their Christian Brothers home. As we approach our 150th Anniversary, a completed campaign - with robust academic programs, practical and attractive facilities and a sound annual fund – is our ultimate goal. With your support, we know we can get there. A new gym, additional locker rooms, an expanded counseling facility, and the renovation of Stephen Hall will signal the arrival of a new sidewalk in front of the school. With the year 2021 rapidly approaching, Christian Brothers High School is sending the message that the school is on a solid ground----educationally, financially, and spiritually. We eagerly anticipate celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the arrival of the Christian Brothers in Memphis! Live, Jesus, in our hearts. Forever! Brother Chris Englert, FSC President GIVE BACK HOME 1 GIVE BACK HOME The Campaign For Christian Brothers The Give Back Home Campaign for Christian Brothers began in 2014 when, after years of strategic planning, school leadership decided to reinvest into the 5900 Walnut Grove campus as well as our academic and extracurricular programs. The $25 million campaign started in a silent phase with leadership engaging key constituents in the overall plan, and in doing so, asking for their financial support. The silent phase of the campaign brought many changes to the campus: the Brothers Residence and Heffernan Hall were completely renovated; the state- of-the-art McEniry Hall was built to house our STEMM program, and the 50,000 sq. ft. Brothers Development Center was constructed. The Brother Joel McGraw Endowment, which provides funding to our faculty, staff, and coaches for career development and Lasallian formation, was also created during this time. In all, the silent phase of the campaign surpassed its $15 million goal in cash pledges and received an additonal $4 million is estate commitments. In the fall of 2016, the campaign was publically announced through a special edition of the Purple and Gold, where we showed our successes since 2014 as well as our plans moving forward, to raise the remaining $10 million. Since this time, school leadership has worked tirelessly to make sure this next phase of our brick and mortar improvements, our academic programs, and our advancement strategies position CBHS in the best way for the future. Announcement of Comprehensive Campaign As we approach the 150th anniversary of the Christian Brothers’ teaching in Memphis, CBHS is launching the public phase of the Give Back Home Campaign which will strive to address three keys to our success as we look forward to our next 50 years. • To be a leader in an increasingly competitive private school market (Capital/Brick and Mortar) • To deliver on our mission to serve the poor and remain socially diverse (Annual Fund/Operations) • To serve Memphis and the Mid-South for years to come by providing quality Catholic education with a reasonable tuition (Legacy/Endowment). This campaign is the largest campaign in school history, and its positive impact reaches everyone in the CBHS family, past and present. We will invite our entire community to support the future for CBHS. Continue reading for more information on how you can make an impact on our future and “Give Back Home”! This is exactly what the Annual Fund does! Each and every gift directly benefits every student on campus. The Annual Fund fills “the Gap” between what tuition and fees cover and what it actually costs to educate our Brothers’ Boys. It also serves as the gateway for all direct program fundraising for every extracurricular program at CBHS. Continued growth and strength in our Annual Fund will enable us to deliver on our mission for years to come. In an effort to grow the Annual Fund to $1 million as well as build a strong monthly recurring giving base, CBHS launched the 2K for $1M Annual Fund Initiative (2K for $1M) in January of 2017.

For twenty years, he worked quietly and effectively as a teacher and principal in Sauges, an isolated village on a barren plateau in southern France. At his beatification, Pope Pius XII stressed that Benilde’s sanctification was attained by enduring “the terrible daily grind” and by “doing common things in an uncommon way.” As a young Brother, I remember listening to historian Br. Clair Battersby, FSC talk to us about St. Benilde. “There’s nothing to say” was repeated several times throughout his talk. Benilde had lived an ordinary life, but approached it with extraordinary faith and zeal. Over the years, Christian Brothers High School has been blessed with many teachers who have endured the “daily grind” of preparing classwork, correcting homework, papers and tests, coaching athletes, directing plays and concerts, accompanying students on field trips, and spending extra hours leading a variety of co-curricular activities.

  • 2020–21 Commencement Program
Commencement UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO BOULDER MAY 6, 2021 One Hundred Forty-Fifth Year of the University NORLIN CHARGE TO THE GRADUATES The first commencement at the University of Colorado was held for six graduates on June 8, 1882, in the chapel of Old Main. It was not until 40 years later, on September 4, 1922, that the first summer commencement was held. Since the first commencement in 1882, the University of Colorado Boulder has awarded more than 350,000 degrees. The traditional Norlin Charge to the graduates was first read by President George Norlin to the June 1935 graduating class. You are now certified to the world at large as alumni of the university. She is your kindly mother and you her cherished sons and daughters. This exercise denotes not your severance from her, but your union with her. Commencement does not mean, as many wrongly think, the breaking of ties and the beginning of life apart. Rather it marks your initiation in the fullest sense into the fellowship of the university, as bearers of her torch, as centers of her influence, as promoters of her spirit. The university is not the campus, not the buildings on campus, not the faculties, not the students of any one time—not one of these or all of them. The university consists of all who come into and go forth from her halls, who are touched by her influence, and who carry on her spirit. Wherever you go, the university goes with you. Wherever you are at work, there is the university at work.

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Terry Funk More than Just Hardcore by Terry Funk Wrestling / Terry Funk. Meet the prime minister of hardcore wrestling. Known as "The Hardcore Icon" and "The Funker", Terrence Funk (born June 30, 1944) is a semi-/maybe retired American Professional Wrestler who is a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion , a pioneer of the hardcore style in North America, and one of the ECW Originals. He also has made appearances in Japan with AJPW and (around 2011) NJPW and Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW), as well as in Puerto Rico with the World Wrestling Council (WWC), the WWWF/WWF/WWE and WCW (both during the later NWA/WCW days and near the end of WCW's run), as well as MLW, SMW, Ring of Honor, TNA, Juggalo Championship Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Guerilla and MANY others. He's known as a member of the Funk Wrestling Family, which includes his late father Dory Funk Sr. (May 4, 1919 – June 3, 1973) and his older brother Dory Funk Jr. (born 1941). (As a bonus, Terry and Dory Jr. are the only brothers to date to ever hold the NWA World Heavyweight title.) In addition, there is his acting resume, starting with Paradise Alley in 1978. He may not look like much, but he's taken bumps men a third his age would not consider, let alone attempt. While not quite the living embodiment of hardcore (that would be Abdullah the Butcher), he ranks pretty close; the Funkasaurus is a walking museum, proselytizing the heritage of the sport as it originated in mid-20th century fairs.
