E’ la strada del sogno americano, la Mother Road, “la madre di tutte le strade”, come l'ha definita John Steinbeck. Percorrerla da capo a fondo è un'esperienza affascinante e unica: un salto indietro nel tempo che ci riporta agli anni '50. Un inno alla Libertà, al ritmo di “It winds from Chicago to LA, More than two thousand miles all the way. Get your kicks on Route sixty-six!” (Nat King Cole). Posti limitati! PROGRAMMA - PARTENZA SU RICHIESTA ANCHE DA ALTRI AEROPORTI IN ITALIA 1° giorno: TRIESTE - BOLOGNA - CHICAGO (Illinois) Ritrovo dei partecipanti a Trieste in Piazza Oberdan, sistemazione in pulmino riservato e trasferimento all’aeroporto di Bologna in tempo per il volo per Chicago (via altra città). All’arrivo, trasferimento in hotel. Pernottamento. 2° giorno: CHICAGO Giornata dedicata ai luoghi più significativi di Chicago come la Sears Tower, il Millennium Park, il Magnificent Mile. Foto del famoso skyline della città visto dal lago Michigan e, naturalmente, del cartello che segna l’inizio della Mother Road. Pernottamento. 3° giorno: CHICAGO - WILMINGTON - DWIGHT - PONTIAC - ATLANTA - SPRINGFIELD (Illinois) Lasciata Chicago, cominceremo ad entrare nell'atmosfera della Route 66 incontrando strani giganti che imbracciano hot-dog e missili spaziali (come il Bunyon Giant di Atlanta e il Gemini Giant a Wilmington), la vecchia stazione di servizio di Dwight, la strana carrozza World's Largest Wagon And Big Lincoln, il pittoresco Cozy Drive-in di Springfield. A Pontiac fotostop ai murales a tema e visita del Route 66 Association Hall of Fame & Museum. Pernottamento a Springfield, città natale di Abramo Lincoln e capitale dell’Illinois. 4° giorno: SPRINGFIELD (Illinois) - STAUNTON - ST. LOUIS (Missouri) Sosta al pittoresco Henry's Rabbit Ranch di Staunton, e proseguimento per St. Louis, non prima di aver attraversato, a piedi, il suggestivo vecchio ponte sul Mississippi Chain of Rocks, oggi chiuso al traffico. Visita di St. Louis iniziando dal suo simbolo, il Gateway Arch, e continuando col lungofiume e con il tipico quartiere di Cherokee Lemp District, dove si trovano graziose case dai mattoni rossi, negozi di antiquariato e famose birrerie (Lemp Brewery). Pernottamento. 5° giorno: ST LOUIS - CUBA - SPRINGFIELD (Missouri) Oggi passeremo per… Cuba, il cui fascino è legato ai murales e ad alcuni motel storici, come il Wagon Wheel Motel degli anni ’30. Fotostop a Fanning alla sedia a dondolo più grande del mondo e al pittoresco e coloratissimo Bob's Gasoline Alley. Pernottamento. 6° giorno: SPRINGFIELD (MO) - HALLTOWN - CARTHAGE - GALENA (Kansas) - FOYIL (Oklahoma) - CATOOSA - TULSA Dopo un fotostop al Gari Parita Service di Halltown, sosta a Carthage, che ospita un drive-in perfettamente funzionante, il 66 Drive-In Theater, e il Boots Motel, reso celebre da Clark Gable. A Galena, in Kansas, sosta a Cars on the Route, ispirato ai cartoni Cars. Fotostop a Commerce a due splendide stazioni di servizio d’epoca. Breve deviazione a Foyil per il Totem Pole Park, che espone una importante collezione di totem. A Catoosa sosta alla famosa Blue Whale sul laghetto, costruita nel 1970. Pernottamento. 7° giorno: TULSA - STROUD - ARCADIA - OKLAHOMA CITY (Oklahoma) Sosta al Rock Café di Stroud, una vera e propria istituzione in questo tratto di Route 66; qui nasce il personaggio di Cars Sally Carrera. Ad Arcadia fotostop all’OK County 66, all’eccentrica casa Old Round Barn e al ristorante POPOS, dall’enorme bottiglia di soda. Visita di Oklahoma City, compreso il National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Passeggiata nel pittoresco quartiere di Bricktown, affacciato su un piccolo canale in cui tutte le facciate degli edifici sono formate da mattoncini rossi. Pernottamento. 8° giorno: OKLAHOMA CITY - TEXOLA - SHAMROCK (Texas) - GROOM - CONWAY - AMARILLO Passiamo la ghost town di Texola, ed entriamo in Texas. Sosta all'U Drop Inn di Shamrock, edificio art-déco dove prendere un caffè e rifornirsi alle antiche pompe di benzina. Fotostop all'enorme croce bianca di Groom e al Bug Ranch di Conway, con maggiolini graffitati in uno scenario apocalittico, un antipasto del più famoso Cadillac Ranch di Amarillo, che vedremo domani. La sera, al leggendario Big Texan Steak Ranch, potremo accettare la sfida di mangiare la bistecca di due chili, entrando così nella Hall of Fame. 9° giorno: AMARILLO (Texas) - MIDPOINT (ADRIAN) - SANTA ROSA (New Mexico) Fotostop al famoso Midpoint, il cartello che ci avvisa che siamo a metà strada tra Chicago e Los Angeles. Tra pittoreschi motel come il Blue Swallow e il Monumento alla Route 66 di Tucumcari, arrivo a Santa Rosa e visita del Route 66 Auto Museum. Pernottamento. 10° giorno: SANTA ROSA - SANTA FE - ALBUQUERQUE (New Mexico) Lasciamo la piacevole oasi di Santa Rosa, dove si trova anche un minuscolo laghetto turchese, e procediamo lungo il ramo nord, il più antico, della Route 66, che qui si divide, fino a Santa Fe, fondata nel 1610, oggi un museo a cielo aperto nel cui delizioso centro storico si respira l’atmosfera delle colonie spagnole. Continuazione per Albuquerque, la cui Old Town ospita case in adobe, la chiesa dedicata a San Filippo Neri, nonché location della famosa serie tv “Breaking Bad”. Sosta al tipico 66 Diner. Pernottamento. 11° giorno: ALBUQUERQUE (New Mexico) - GALLUP - CANYON DE CHELLY (Arizona) - CHINLE Partenza per Gallup, famoso per l’atmosfera western, i murales e il suo El Rancho hotel. Continuazione per lo spettacolare ma poco conosciuto Canyon de Chelly, situato nell’immenso scenario naturale di terra rossa dell’Arizona all'interno della Riserva indiana Navajo, e visita delle incredibili formazioni rocciose che celano petroglifi ed abitazioni degli antichi Anasazi. Pernottamento. 12° giorno: CHINLE (New Mexico) - PETRIFIED FOREST - METEOR CRATER - WILLIAMS (Arizona) Visita del parco nazionale Petrified Forest, con tronchi pietrificati immersi in un colorato “deserto dipinto”, e del Meteor Creater, un imponente cratere di 46 m di diametro generato dall’impatto con un meteorite, il meglio conservato al mondo del suo genere. Dopo altri fotostop a tema Mother Road, come al Jack Rabbit Trading Post di Joseph City o all’inquietante, ormai dismesso, Twin Arrows Trading Post Ruins, arrivo a Williams, città storica della Route 66 in Arizona. Pernottamento. 13° giorno: WILLIAMS - SELIGMAN - HACKBERRY - KINGMAN (Arizona) La Route 66 in Arizona bisogna godersela per bene: oggi faremo un viaggio nel mondo di Cars a Seligman, e un salto nel passato ad Hackberry e Kingman... in attesa di entrare in California! Pernottamento. 14° giorno: KINGMAN (Arizona) - OATMAN - TOPOCK - BARSTOW (California) Percorrendo la vecchia Bloody Route 66, tra paesaggi mozzafiato, si giunge nella ghost town di Oatman, nel più puro stile far West. Al confine tra Arizona e California, sosta al vecchio ponte sul Colorado di Topock. Arrivo a Barstow, foto ai murales. Pernottamento. 15° giorno: BARSTOW - HELENDALE - SAN BERNARDINO - SANTA MONICA (California) Fotostop alla stranissima foresta di bottiglie dell’Elmer's Bottle Ranch di Helendale e poi al primo McDonalds della storia, a San Bernardino. Attraverseremo quindi Los Angeles fino a raggiungere, a Santa Monica, il famosissimo e pittoresco Santa Monica Pier, termine della Mother Road, in tempo per ammirare uno dei suoi proverbiali tramonti. Pernottamento. 16°/17° giorno: LOS ANGELES - BOLOGNA - TRIESTE Mattinata e primo pomeriggio dedicati alla visita di Los Angeles, spaziando da downtown a Hollywood Boulevard a Beverly Hills. In tempo utile trasferimento in aeroporto e volo notturno per Bologna (via altra città). Arrivo e continuazione in pulmino fino a Trieste.     Same Location ~!IIiiiiJi'" for 50 Years! Historic Route 66 stretches across the U.S. from Chicago to Los Angeles. Along the way, in Lebanon, Missouri is a growing popular landmark stop for any history enthusiast, tourist, or local Ozark resident. Shepherd Hills Factory Outlets started in the outlet business in 1972 as an outlet for locally made Walnut Bowls. Ida and Rea Reid, founders, began their entrepreneurship operating a motel in the 1960's called the Capri Motel which was located right along Route 66, known today as Interstate 44.. They sold the Capri Motel in 1966 and along with their sons, Rod and Randy, started a new business in 1972 called the Shepherd Hills Gift Shop which was leased as a part of the Shepherd Hills Motel and happened to be located in virtually the same spot as the Capri Motel. Later, as they began expanding, they bought a portion of the motel as well as the gift shop and began construction of their current building in 1999. In the meantime, Shepherd Hills added additional locations including those in Osage Beach, MO, Branson, MO, and Eddyville, KY , and brought in other quality products to the lineup including Chicago Cutlery, Denby Pottery, and of course Case XX pocketknives--making the latter also available through catalog mail order and eventually on the web at www.CaseXX.com. Lebanon is one of the best places to see the Mother Road, which was officially named right here in Missouri. You can drive a 5-mile section of the original road, and commemorative Route 66 signs will help guide your drive.

    Same Location ·u...••• for 50 Years! Historic Route 66 stretches across the U.S. from Chicago to Los Angeles. Along the way, in Lebanon, Missouri is a growing popular landmark stop for any history enthusiast, tourist, or local Ozark resident. Shepherd Hills Factory Outlets started in the outlet business in 1972 as an outlet for locally made Walnut Bowls. Ida and Rea Reid, founders, began their entrepreneurship operating a motel in the 1960's called the Capri Motel which was located right along Route 66, known today as Interstate 44. ' They sold the Capri Motel in 1966 and along with their sons, Rod and Randy, started a new business in 1972 called the Shepherd Hills Gift Shop which was leased as a part of the Shepherd Hills Motel and happened to be located in virtually the same spot as the Capri Motel. Later, as they began expanding, they bought a portion of the motel as well as the gift shop and began construction of their current building in 1999. In the meantime, Shepherd Hills added additional locations including those in Osage Beach, MO, Branson, MO, and Eddyville, KY, and brought in other quality products to the lineup including Chicago Cutlery, Denby Pottery, and of course Case XX pocketknives--making the latter also available through catalog mail order and eventually on the web at www.CaseXX.com.
