Tutors, Heads of Year and Housemasters/Housemistresses will be present Pupils are expected to be dressed in their current school uniform The above programme is what we intend to offer if the College is able to reopen by the end of the term. We will provide an update closer the time as to whether or not this will be possible. 2 Seaford New Pupil Pack A5 2020.qxp_Layout 1 01/07/2020 09:57 Page 3 ACADEMIC INDUCTION DAY PROGRAMME FOR YEAR 12 MONDAY 29th JUNE 2020 8.40 am Arrival and registration of students – Johnson Centre 8.50 am Welcome and introduction to the day (Director – Head of Sixth Form) Programme and subject choices for the day Being in the Sixth Form at Seaford College – useful information 9.30 am Subject options – programme of induction lessons until 2.10pm (including lunch) 2.15 pm End of day (departure from the Sixth Form Centre) Dress guidelines - smart casual No jeans or denim, shorts, flip-flops, open sandals, trainers, T-shirts For example: Boys: chinos or similar, proper shoes, shirt (tie not necessary today) Girls: skirt (reasonable length, not clingy) or smart trousers, pumps or similar (comfortable for walking, not high heels), blouse / top covering shoulders (no thin or spaghetti straps, no cropped tops etc.) The above programme is what we intend to offer if the College is able to reopen by the end of the term. Parents are invited and encouraged to stay and be involved in the induction process. 4.00 pm Discussions with tutors and Heads of Department (HOD) regarding A Level choices. There is an opportunity for parents to meet their son or daughter’s form tutor for the coming year (this is strongly encouraged). 5.00 pm A barbeque and refreshments will be available throughout this time for all students and parents to enjoy whilst meeting the Sixth Form teachers, tutors and house parents. 6.00 pm Approximate finish time. First Week of Term All Year 12 students depart on Wednesday for the induction trip to North Wales, returning Friday evening. Full details will be sent separately from the Director – Head of Sixth Form. Second Week of Term All students will undertake the standard Learning Support testing, and ALIS testing. Foreign students will be tested in English as a foreign language. Please note: Overseas students are advised to arrive at the College from 3.00pm onwards on Tuesday, 1st September to enable them to settle into their boarding house and attend the Year 12 induction afternoon. If your flight arrives earlier than this, you should be collected by your guardian and they should bring you to the College from 3.00pm onwards. Tutors have a key role in every student’s life, monitoring academic progress, encouraging and supporting participation in the life of the College as well as monitoring standards of behaviour and dress. They build a detailed profile of the students, enabling them to set realistic targets and to recognise their strengths and weaknesses. The tutors for the academic year 2020/2021 can be found in the Autumn Term calendar, which will be sent to you via the post at the start of term. In advance of this, you will receive notification before the start of the Autumn term as to your son or daughter’s tutor for the coming year. Students will meet with their tutor for registration each morning at 8.25am and each afternoon at 4.20pm. Parents are encouraged to contact the relevant tutor or Head of Year without delay if they are anxious or concerned about any aspect of their child’s welfare. FURTHER INFORMATION ATTENDANCE Registration takes place at 8.25am. If your son/daughter is absent from school for any reason or if you are picking up early please contact 01798 867887 or [email protected]. If your son/daughter arrives at any time after 08.25 they are required to register at the school reception office in Mansion. PERMISSION FOR ABSENCE OR EARLY DEPARTURE SHOULD BE SOUGHT FROM THE APPROPRIATE DIRECTOR OF SIXTH FORM/MIDDLE SCHOOL IN ADVANCE. It is a legal requirement for the school to register students and to follow up any unauthorised absence. 5 Seaford New Pupil Pack A5 2020.qxp_Layout 1 01/07/2020 09:57 Page 6 ACTIVITIES School activities are usually held between 4.30-5.30pm. A full programme of activities is published each term, which students sign up to through their tutors. APPEARANCE AND DRESS All students are expected to arrive at school and to leave school dressed in full school uniform. It is expected that all students maintain a high standard of dress and personal appearance. Please refer to Seaford College’s Appearance and Dress policy for guidelines. ASSESSMENTS Challenge Grade reports are produced at three intervals over the course of the year. We publish online a full report with comments, targets, a working at grade, and student attainment indicating the ‘flight path’ that a student is currently working on in relation to their aspirational ‘challenge’ grade. Parents’ consultation meetings with teachers take place during the year for all year groups. BULLYING We are committed to providing a caring, friendly and safe environment for all our students. Bullying of any sort is unacceptable at our school. Please contact your child’s tutor or Head of Year if you suspect that bullying is taking place. Please refer to the Seaford College policy document for full details of our anti-bullying policy, which can be found on the Seaford College website. COLLECTION (End of School Day) Coaches depart from the school at 5.45pm. Students must wear seat belts, remain seated throughout the journey and behave properly. Students not travelling on the coaches may be collected from school from 5.30pm (not before please, unless specific permission has been granted). All students are expected to travel in school uniform to and from the school. FIXTURES The College takes pride in their sporting fixtures against other schools and many students will represent the school in one or more sports. Many of these fixtures will take place on Saturdays and it is a requirement that all students are available for selection to represent the school, and will honour this commitment.
