(April 25, 2013) – The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly leads male vocalist group Spectrum and female vocalist group Radiance in Motown’s most memorable hits on Thursday, May 30 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore, and Friday, May 31, Saturday, June 1 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 2 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The program will feature legendary songs from the Temptations, The Supremes, the Four Tops, Aretha Franklin and more. Please see below for complete program details. In 1959, Berry Gordy borrowed $800 to establish Motown Records, the label that would quickly go on to produce more than 180 No. 1 hit songs and sign some of the best-selling artists of all time including the Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder.     July 2017-Special Events 3 Monday 2:00 Historian Jack Lightcap will present a slide show lecture “The Story of the American Declaration of Independence’ in the Event Center. 4 Tuesday Happy Independence Day! 8:00 PBS stations 48 & 54 will show “A Capitol Fourth.” Emmy 'Award-nominated actor and producer John Stamos is set to host the 37th annual edition of PBS’ A Capitol Fourth, broadcast live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The all- star musical and fireworks extravaganza will kick off the country’s 241st birthday with performances by: soul men Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi of The Blues Brothers; iconic multi- platinum selling music legends The Beach Boys; legendary Motown stars The Four Tops; and The Voice Season 12 winner Chris Blue; with the National Symphony Orchestra. Gifted actress and singer Sofia Carson will open the show with a special performance of the national anthem. The concert will also feature a tribute to our men and women in uniform by Trace Adkins who will perform his new single “Still a Soldier.” Also participating in the event will be the Choral Arts Society of Washington, the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, the U.S. Army Ceremonial Band, Members of the Armed Forces carrying the State and Territorial Flags and the Armed Forces Color Guard provided by the Military District of Washington, D.C. America’s biggest and brightest birthday party will celebrate the country’s 239th birthday Saturday, July 4, 2015 from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. ET on PBS (check local listings). In the following interview, founder and executive producer Jerry Colbert of Capital Concerts shares his thoughts on producing the show for over three decades. Your first show was in 1980 – Jimmy Carter was president; gasoline had reached an unprecedented high of $1/gallon and Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back had just been released. Take us back to July 4, 1980 and your very first show. Well, thirty-five years ago, when we first began our goal was just to get the show on television. At the time, we had a limited budget so we went to WETA, our local PBS station, and borrowed a small studio truck. When we got to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, we found out that unless the director hit the console with his hand it wouldn’t turn on and it was all rusted out. Nobody knew where to put the cameras, so it began as a real amateur hour. We’ve grown tremendously over these years, and we are usually the top rated shows on PBS.

    2019 NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT BIOGRAPHIES Joe Mantegna Joe was awarded the Tony and Joseph Jefferson Award for his acclaimed performance as Richard Roma in David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross. Some of Joe’s film and television highlights are; House of Games, Searching for Bobby Fisher, Godfather III, his Emmy and Golden Globe nominated role of Dean Martin in The Ratpack, his Emmy nominated role of Pipi Delana in The Last Don, and the voice of Fat Tony on The Simpsons. For two seasons, Joe stared with Mary Steenburgen and Amber Tamblyn in the critically acclaimed CBS drama Joan of Arcadia, winner of the 2004 People Choice Award for best new drama as well as picking up three Emmy nominations. In 2008, Joe reprised his Emmy nominated role of Lou Manahan opposite Debra Messing in USA Network series The Starter Wife. Joe has also lent his voice to the Disney/Pixar film, CARS2 and continues his 23-year run as Fat Tony on The Simpsons. In April of 2011, Joe received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Joe lends much of his free time to a number of philanthropic endeavors. In May of 2012, Joe was appointed the National Spokesperson for The U.S. Army Museum, to lead the fundraising campaign to build the long-planned National Museum of the United States Army. He’s also an ambassador for the Gary Sinise Foundation, which builds homes for wounded veterans, as well as hosting the National Memorial Day Concert since 2006.
