(April 25, 2013) – The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly leads male vocalist group Spectrum and female vocalist group Radiance in Motown’s most memorable hits on Thursday, May 30 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore, and Friday, May 31, Saturday, June 1 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 2 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. In 1959, Berry Gordy borrowed $800 to establish Motown Records, the label that would quickly go on to produce more than 180 No. 1 hit songs and sign some of the best-selling artists of all time including the Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder. The record company’s huge success is credited to its unique “Motown Sound,” a funky blend of horns, tambourines, hand clapping and the interplay of gospel music’s call-and- response patterns with jazz music’s improvisational be-bop style. The “Motown Sound” changed American music forever. Jack Everly, conductor Jack Everly is the Principal Pops Conductor of the Baltimore and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa), and the Music Director of the National Memorial Day Concert and A Capitol Fourth on PBS. Mr. Everly is the Music Director of Yuletide Celebration, now a 26‐year tradition. These theatrical symphonic holiday concerts are presented annually in December in Indianapolis and are seen by more than 40,000 concert‐goers. Originally appointed by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Mr. Everly was conductor of the American Ballet Theatre for 14 years, where he served as music director. Mr. Everly has teamed with Marvin Hamlisch in Broadway shows including The Goodbye Girl, They’re Playing Our Song, and A Chorus Line. He conducted Carol Channing hundreds of times in Hello, Dolly! in two separate Broadway productions. Mr. Everly has conducted the songs for Disney’s animated classic, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and led the Czech Philharmonic on the recordings In the Presence and Sandi Patty’s 2011 release, Broadway Stories. He also conducted the critically praised Everything’s Coming Up Roses: The Complete Overtures of Broadway’s Jule Styne. In 1998, Jack Everly created the Symphonic Pops Consortium, serving as music director. The Consortium, based in Indianapolis, produces a new theatrical pops program each season. In the past 12 years, more than 225 performances of SPC programs have taken place across the U.S. and Canada. Maestro Everly holds an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Franklin College in his home state of Indiana. Spectrum, male vocalists Spectrum draws upon the talent of four distinct voices to form a first-class vocal quartet. After spending six years recreating the sound and style of the Four Tops in Las Vegas' multi-million dollar production shows American Superstars and Legends In Concert, the group has developed the versatility to credibly cover the music of groups from the Platters to The Temptations to Boyz II Men. It is this versatility that has propelled them to the status of headlining their own shows in which they perform all of the best cover tunes. Spectrum’s credits include European tours, headlining aboard Royal Caribbean, Princess & Norwegian Cruise Line ships, a Doo-Wop to Soul Review at the Hollywood Palladium, as well as performances with over 40 symphony orchestras throughout North America. Voted Best of Las Vegas in 2005 and 2006, their award winning show ran for four years in succession on the Las Vegas Strip, ending only when the Mirage-MGM owned property that housed it closed its’ doors. In 2009 they were selected to receive the Vegas Entertainment Consumer’s Living Legends Award for Excellence in Entertainment. The members of Spectrum are master recording artist Darryl Grant of Oakland, California, Chicago-born musician and versatile entertainer Pierre Jovan, David Prescott, the silky-smooth, soaring-voiced first tenor from Rochester, New York and singer, actor and group founder Cushney Roberts, from East Orange, New Jersey. Radiance, female vocalists Las Vegas’ Morgan Bray Entertainment, the producers that brought you Spectrum’s amazing Tribute to Motown, is proud to present Radiance as the answer to the frequently asked question: “Is there a female counterpart to the group Spectrum?” Radiance was formed and is managed by Cushney Roberts, and has performed with Spectrum and on their own in Las Vegas and around the United States over the last several years. Formed specifically to compliment Spectrum, they bring to life the music of the Supremes, Martha & the Vandellas, the Marvellettes and many more. Some of the songs in their repertoire include, “Come See About Me,” “Dancin’ In The Streets,” “Stop In the Name of Love,” “Please Mr. Postman,” “You Keep Me Hanging On” and “When Will I See You Again.” Radiance is comprised of some of the finest talent that Las Vegas has to offer: Marque Munday, Vivian Ross, Wendy Edmead and Crystal Robinson. These members bring their years of experience to the stage, having performed with contemporary versions of the Supremes, Vandellas and Marvelettes as well as in various International Motown tribute tours. The costuming, choreography, harmonies, energy and excitement are second to none and make for a spectacular show transforming your audience back to an era of music that formed a major cornerstone in American music of the 60’s and 70’s.
