new light-hearted British detective series is being added to the Vegas PBS lineup. Sent to the tiny island of Saint-Marie to solve a mysterious murder, Detective Inspector Richard Poole is a total fish out of water. A quintessentially British cop, he would much prefer the London drizzle and a freshly pressed shirt to blue seas, sparklingA sands and gorgeous tropical weather. The story takes place against a stunning island backdrop — as far away from the gray skies of London as you could possibly get. What Richard finds is a ramshackle station and a very different type of policing. The fact that there’s a goat in one of the cells says it all. He can’t get out of there fast enough, but there’s a job to do and he does it brilliantly. His reward — a permanent posting to the island, his own personal hell on . He may be stuck there, but he’s not going to let his standards slip. He’ll bring British rigor to this relaxed Caribbean workplace. Always in a suit and tie, eschewing sandals for a stout brogue, he's the very embodiment of the Englishman abroad. He can get through his ordeal, if only he could find a decent cup of tea. Ben Miller (“Primeval,”“The Armstrong and Miller Show,” Johnny English) stars. ...there’s a job to do and he ‘‘ does it brilliantly...”

They called themselves the Freedom Riders, and they managed to bring the president and the entire American public face-to-face with the challenge of correcting civil-rights The Freedom Riders’ burning bus inequities that plagued the nation. ee how the African-American community is grappling with the gay rights issue in light

of the gay marriage movement and the fight over civil rights. The program documents

activists, families and clergy on both sides of the campaign to legalize gay marriage

and examines homophobia in the black community’s institutional pillar — the black

Schurch — and reveals the Christian right wing’s strategy of exploiting this phenomenon in order to

pursue an anti-gay political agenda. The film takes viewers into the pews and onto the streets and

provides a seat at the kitchen table as it tells the story of the fight to win marriage equality in Aldwych station Maryland, charting the evolution of this divisive issue within the black community. Secrets of Underground London Sunday, June 22 at 8 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 On the surface, London is a buzzing, mod- ern metropolis – but underneath lies a secret, hidden world, all but forgotten by the millions of people above. This program uncovers 2,000 years of subterranean his- tory: a world of ancient caves and perfect- ly preserved Roman remains; mysterious rivers and gruesome plague pits; impene- trable vaults and top-secret bunkers. Digging deep, the program unearths some of the most extraordinary stories of the darkest part of the city.

Mark L. Walberg Antiques Roadshow: Vintage Columbus Monday, June 30 at 8 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 Back in 1999, Mark Walberg and the crew dropped in on Columbus, Ohio. Since then, some of the originally appraised items have soared in value, but others have sunk. Highlights include a trio of Albert Cheuret art deco clocks; a Marx “Roy Rogers” play set; and a historical collection, once owned by our nation’s first postmaster general, including a Thomas Jefferson let- ter previously valued at $100,000, now val- ued between $300,000-$350,000. Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid Long Road Home Sunday, June 29 at 10 p.m. on Vegas PBS Jackpot! Exploring the impact of wartime Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), this special offers compelling stories of Pittsburgh-area military veterans of Iraq, Vietnam, Korea and World War II still coming to terms with the emo- tional wounds of war. The film explores successful therapies and documents the promising research underway at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where doctors study the sleep and brain patterns of PTSD sufferers. The program concludes on a hopeful note, with a visit to a weekend retreat for veterans dealing with PTSD and combat stress. United by their experi- ences, the former servicemen and women discuss their feelings, their strug- gles in civilian life, their need for closure and their optimism for the future.
