Access at Independence and 1st St, SW (Use East side of First Street sidewalk at Independence Ave., SW) see map below RECOMMENDED ARRIVAL TIME Entrance opens at 6:00 p.m. We recommend arriving no later than 7:15 p.m. to allow time to go through security. Please do not bring chairs or blankets, seats will be provided. Guests are allowed to bring small personal coolers with food and drinks; please bring items that are easy to eat and be mindful of litter. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Water stations will be set up around the perimeter of the reserved area for guests to enjoy prior to the program. Professional cameras/lenses and flash photography not allowed. PROGRAM TIME The Concert Rehearsal begins at 8:00 p.m. and will conclude at approximately 9:30 p.m. The concert will be hosted by Emmy Award-nominated actor and producer John Stamos (FULLER HOUSE, SCREAM QUEENS) and feature performances by: multi-platinum selling music legend Jimmy Buffett with the Broadway cast of the new musical Escape to Margaritaville, making their first stop after Broadway at the U.S. Capitol before launching a national tour; ‘America’s Band,’ the iconic multi-platinum selling music legends The Beach Boys; three-time Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum selling artist Pentatonix; legendary Motown stars The Temptations; acclaimed multi-platinum country music singer-songwriter and winner of the iHeartRadio Music Award for Best New Country Artist Luke Combs; country music star and AMERICAN IDOL alum Lauren Alaina; multi-platinum pop singer and songwriter Andy Grammer; 12-time Grammy Award-winner and gospel legend CeCe Winans; theatrical icon and one of Broadway’s greatest triple-threat talents Chita Rivera; and internationally acclaimed Grammy award winning violinist Joshua Bell; with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly. The all- star musical and fireworks extravaganza will kick off the country’s 241st birthday with performances by: soul men Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi of The Blues Brothers; iconic multi- platinum selling music legends The Beach Boys; legendary Motown stars The Four Tops; and The Voice Season 12 winner Chris Blue; with the National Symphony Orchestra. Gifted actress and singer Sofia Carson will open the show with a special performance of the national anthem. Your first show was in 1980 – Jimmy Carter was president; gasoline had reached an unprecedented high of $1/gallon and Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back had just been released. Take us back to July 4, 1980 and your very first show. Well, thirty-five years ago, when we first began our goal was just to get the show on television. At the time, we had a limited budget so we went to WETA, our local PBS station, and borrowed a small studio truck. When we got to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, we found out that unless the director hit the console with his hand it wouldn’t turn on and it was all rusted out. Nobody knew where to put the cameras, so it began as a real amateur hour. We’ve grown tremendously over these years, and we are usually the top rated shows on PBS.

    2019 NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT BIOGRAPHIES Joe Mantegna Joe was awarded the Tony and Joseph Jefferson Award for his acclaimed performance as Richard Roma in David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross. Some of Joe’s film and television highlights are; House of Games, Searching for Bobby Fisher, Godfather III, his Emmy and Golden Globe nominated role of Dean Martin in The Ratpack, his Emmy nominated role of Pipi Delana in The Last Don, and the voice of Fat Tony on The Simpsons. For two seasons, Joe stared with Mary Steenburgen and Amber Tamblyn in the critically acclaimed CBS drama Joan of Arcadia, winner of the 2004 People Choice Award for best new drama as well as picking up three Emmy nominations. In 2008, Joe reprised his Emmy nominated role of Lou Manahan opposite Debra Messing in USA Network series The Starter Wife. Joe has also lent his voice to the Disney/Pixar film, CARS2 and continues his 23-year run as Fat Tony on The Simpsons. In April of 2011, Joe received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Joe lends much of his free time to a number of philanthropic endeavors. In May of 2012, Joe was appointed the National Spokesperson for The U.S. Army Museum, to lead the fundraising campaign to build the long-planned National Museum of the United States Army. He’s also an ambassador for the Gary Sinise Foundation, which builds homes for wounded veterans, as well as hosting the National Memorial Day Concert since 2006.
