Hon KIM CHANCE replied: While this question should be directed to the WA branch of the Australian Labor Party, the Member may care to look under the chapter, part (e), "Conservation and Environment" to find discussion on the environment and sustainability. GORGON GAS DEVELOPMENT, BARROW ISLAND, ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC REVIEW 1190. Hon Norman Moore to the Leader of the House representing the Premier I refer the Premier to the Environmental, Social and Economic Review of the Gorgon gas development proposal on Barrow Island, and ask - (1) Can the Premier indicate whether Government approval for the project, as a result of the Review, would - (a) provide certainty for the proponent that it can proceed with the development when the proponent is ready; (b) removed the need for any further environmental assessments in the future that could result in the project being rejected; and (c) provide certainty that there will be no risk to the project in the future as a result of any further environmental or other approvals required under State laws? (2) If Government approval for the project, as a result of the ESE Review, does not result in certainty over the project’s final approval to proceed on Barrow Island, can the Premier indicate whether the Government would introduce legislation to allow Parliament to deliver such certainty? (3) If not, why not? Hon KIM CHANCE replied: (1)-(3) As I said in response to Questions Without Notice 1209 and 1222, the project remains subject to environmental approval at State and Commonwealth levels. UNITED STATES NAVY, SEA-SWAP OPERATION, NATURE AND VOLUME OF FREIGHT TRANSPORTS 1202. Hon Dee Margetts to the Leader of the House representing the Premier (1) Is the Premier aware of the nature and volume of freight transports conducted between US Naval vessels during a sea swap and - (a) RAAF Base Pearce; (b) Perth International Airport; and (c) HMAS Stirling? (2) If yes to (1), can the Premier detail the nature and volume of such transports? (3) If no to (1), why not? (4) If no to (1), will the Premier be endeavouring to find out?
