As you can see in this issue, lots of events have happened already. A gentle reminder to send me pictures and write-ups of any of the events you at- tend, I can’t have too many pictures. This summer, I won’t be attending many events, so I am relying on our members to get the information to me. Have a great summer and “Happy Motoring” Allan Reich [email protected] TRIUMPH HERITAGE is published four times per year (March, June, September, December) by the BCTR and is distributed to its members as part of their annual dues. The ABFM at VanDusen was treat. One thing that seems to happen to me every year at VanDusen is that as long as the day is, I seem to run out of time to do all the things that I want to do there. I suppose that shows how impressive the show grown and satisfies the urges of spring fever for all those who are itching to get their British wheels rolling. A big thanks goes to Brian and Tina Thomlinson for hosting this year's Après ABFM BBQ with the spirited help of the soups chefs and master griller Barrie Puffer. Regrettably, I did not get to attend the Performance Drive School that Larry organized and from the pictures that I've seen, it looks as thought there was a lot of fun, despite the wet weather. Hopefully we can do another one in a year or two. Say, what ever happened to our go-kart nights ? Rather than leaving town for the ATDI this year, we stay right at home in Fort Langley, actually right at the Fort itself. The Spoulers have spearheaded the ATDI Committee again this year and have a very special event lined up for us. For my part, I have been working with Brian T and Dennis N on the two drives for the Saturday afternoon and, no, I did not shift into overdrive on any part of the routes. We will need everyone's support as volunteers to make the day go smoothly and to show that we a good hosts. That's all that I have at the moment, so stay tuned to our website to see what's coming up and plan to participate and drive safely. On Saturday May 29, 15 cars attended the Driving Unlimited playground at Pitt Meadows Airport. It was a rainy day and YES, 6 Triumphs showed up along with one MG(super) B and a Bobs’ lovely Morgan. Some club members brought their family vehicles as their Triumphs were too leaky. We started off with a hot coffee and donuts and Patrick gave us some driving tips for better mirror adjustment, keeping your vision up high and doing controlled brake applications. Four challenge courses were set up for us in the morning. This is where we would work on our skills and see how our cars would respond. You would enter each course one at a time as an instructor would signal you in. Then you would perform the exercise and exit the course to receive a one on one briefing from the instructor on how to improve your next run through. The moderate speed (40-45K) run up and then apply a rapid hard brake application was the first time I or Keith had ever really locked up our brakes on our Triumphs. It was also nice to know she stopped in a nice straight line without any real pull one way or another. Next came the hard stop while turning a tight corner, the focus was to brake after turning, keep turning and look out the side window at the direc- tion you want the car to go, and not look at where the car is actually going. The slalom was an interesting exercise to get you to look up and beyond the course. An instructor would stand at the end of the cones and if he lifted his arm you are to miss a gate and drive ahead then turn at the next gate. Sometimes he would lift his arm in succession which really kept you off balance; however by keeping your eyes up it prepared you for his signals. Now came the most challenging course. A speed approach into a narrow conned lane- way, a row of cones dead ahead with an instructor standing just behind them looking at you as you approached. As you entered at speed he would give you one of 5 signals and you had to react un- der control and complete the action smoothly. You had to be ready for a quick veer to the left or right, a hard rapid stop, or a combina- tion rapid stop, release and hard veer right or left. A bit unnerving as you were bearing down on him and saying in your head , OK signal, please signal now, S I G N A L Damn you !!! It was now time for lunch which was arranged by Robert Strath, through the Lunch Doctor. Good eats and plenty of them. Now came the real fun part. Gerry you should have been there because the rain was pooling on the tarmac and presented a great opportu- nity for some real fun time. Two tight circles were conned off tar- geting some of the larger puddles for the under-steer and over- steer correction exercises. Dennis Thompson got his Dolomite going a little too good and spun it out of the circle.

  • Production Data 83
Production Data 83 Production Dates & Commission Numbers When ordering parts, it is essential that you identify your car exactly, by model year and serial number. Since many part changes were made during model years, the commission number, engine number and body number provide the only positive identification. Quite often a car’s title will not show the correct model year. Before ordering parts, please record the applicable numbers from your car. Using these numbers is the best way to ensure that you order and receive the correct parts. Wherever possible, we have listed part applications by commission number (e), body number (b) or gearbox (g). For more in formation on these numbers and years, see the production data below. • TRIUMPH 1800-2000 Renown Saloon the Triumph 1800-2000
TRIUMPH 1800-2000 Renown Saloon The Triumph 1800-2000 Saloon known as the “Razor Edge” due to its straight angular panels and sharp profile was built between 1946 and 1953. It was a post war car built to pre-war specifications i.e. a separate chassis, with the body built up as a traditional ash frame and styling that dated back to the late 1930’s. The sedan copied the Rolls Royce and Bentleys of the time in its styling, and was one of the first cars to be stretched to make a limousine, complete with glass partition behind the driver. Initially the vehicle was fitted with a 1776cc four-cylinder engine developing 65bhp which in 1948 was enlarged to 2088cc (still only producing 68bhp) and had a top speed of around 80mph. Late models had overdrive as an option on their 3-speed gearboxes and the Renown appeared as an upgraded 2000 Sedan in 1950. The car was not a commercial success however as despite its luxurious appointments, it was always too expensive, compared to its competition and in the British post-war ‘export or die’ atmosphere less than 10% of the total production of 15,400 were exported. TRIUMPH MAYFLOWER The Mayflower was introduced in 1949 and was Triumph’s first post war “small” car. The razor edge lines allowed excellent space utilisation enabling four adults to fit in with ease. It was one of the first cars to feature the “modern” trend of a large glass area, and the square boot handled a full compliment of luggage.

INTERNATIONAL TRIUMPH SHOW AND SPARES DAY, STONELEIGH PARK SUNDAY MARCH 6TH 2011 Mike Sampson represented the Club with his TDB and he also photographed an unusual Vanguard Estate. OUT WITH LOTHAR KLEMENTZ AGAIN Classic Car gatherings are actually very popular in Germany. This one was held in a small village of Dreieichenhain, quite close to Frankfurt/M for the 14th time last Sunday May 15th (open Sunday for the local shops). Our Renown was positioned in front of a timber-framed building adjacent to the booth of a shop selling home appliances. This shop is strongly customer orientated. As you can see they even customised the fridge according to the provenance of the Renown. BRITISH DAYS AND COUNTRY FAIR AT JAGDSCHLOSS, KRANICHSTEIN, DARMSTADT Another outing for Lothar Klementz took him to this event. FMW 479 TD 3847 A letter from Craig Jeffery. I am writing to tell you of a photograph I found whilst sorting out some odds and ends. The photograph was of my grandfather’s Triumph Razor edge and was taken in 1957. Seeing a picture of his old car brought back memories of numerous holidays and day trips all taken in his wonderful Triumph. So, curiosity getting the better of me, I decided to look on the internet to find out if any of these wonderful cars remained , which is how I found TROC. Whilst looking at your webpage, I noticed you had some photographs of past rallies. When I reached your 2006 anniversary Rally, I clicked on the picture DSC.0096 and to my amazement; there was granddad’s old car, registration number FMW 479.

THE GLOBE VOL 40 NO 1 APRIL 2014 The Renown that nearly was TRIUMPH RAZOREDGE OWNERS’ CLUB LIMITED THE GLOBE VOL 40 No 1 APRIL 2014 EDITORIAL We welcome the first warm days of sunshine, and the end of that interminable rain; we help the domestic goddess get the covers off the sofa for spring-cleaning; but most of all we awaken the Razoredge from its hibernation, ready for – hopefully – a fine summer of interesting visits, occasional outings, and just the sheer joy of driving a great classic, enjoying the smiles on the faces of those lucky enough to see us go by. If your plans for the summer can include a visit to the heart of England on Sunday July 13th, then please do come along to the TROC Annual Rally at Shifnal. If you can bring your car and make a day, or a weekend, of it, then that would be simply brilliant; but even without the car it’s a chance to meet other members and share in the ambience. There is a brief article on page 22 developing this theme. We also have an outing further south this year: the Standard Triumph Marque event returns to Brooklands on June 22nd, and TROC will have a number of cars there – see our Events Guide and the back cover of the magazine for more details, but if you are able to come along in your car, please let Chris Hewitt know, so we can be sure to have enough space. If you go on the Internet to https://groups.yahoo.com , you’ll find there is now a group called TRIUMPHRENOWNS.
