J Arthropod-Borne Dis, September 2017, 11(3): 433–440 R Dehghani and H Kassiri: Geographical … Short Communication Geographical Distribution of Scorpion Odontobuthus doriae in Isfahan Province, Central Iran Rouhullah Dehghani 1, *Hamid Kassiri 2 1Social Determinants of Health (SDH) Research Center, Kashan University of Medical Sciences, Kashan, Iran 2Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, School of Health, Ahvaz, Iran (Received 13 Sep 2016; accepted 21 Aug 2017) Abstract Background: Scorpions are among the world’s venomous arthropods, they sting humans every year, suffering pain- ful symptoms or losing their lives because of the venom. Odontobuthus doriae Thorell 1876 (Arachnida: Scorpi- onida: Buthidae) is a scorpion of medical importance and therefore its geographical distribution in Isfahan Province has been studied. Methods: This descriptive cross–sectional study was designed between Mar and Jun in 2012 and 2013 in Province of Isfahan, central Iran. Overall, 164 O. doriae scorpions were collected from their natural habitat by identifying the dug burrows. This arthropod’s burrows were identified based on the presence of tumuli, particularly between May and Jun at the sloping foothills of pristine embankments. The sampling data was categorized and compared. Results: The relative frequency of collected O. doriae for the counties was Mobarakeh (13.5%), Shahinshahre (11.5%), Borkhar (9%), Shahreza (7.5%), Kashan (7.5%), Naeen (6%), Natanz (5.5%), Isfahan (4.8%), Najafabad (4.8%), Aran and Bidgol (4.8%), Dehaghan (4.8%), Flavarjan (3.7%), Khomeinishahr (3.7%), Tiran (3.7%), Gol- payegan (3.7%), Ardestan (3.7%) and Lenjan (2.5%). No O. doriae was collected from other counties of the province.

This research describes the challenges of Isfahan ecotourism and explores the opportunities in this city. The research is a developing research. Data gathered through interviews, field work, using of different web sites, magazines, e-books, theses and scientific reports. This research is worked on the basis of a model and described that there must be a governmental strategic plan and framework on the basis of this model. The research is a qualitative and descriptive. Data gathered through archival records and interviews and direct observation. From conducting this research some important findings explored. It seems that as a result of findings, Isfahan province enjoys appropriate situations and advantages for developing ecotourism but they have not been introduced in previous years in a proper manner and there is not desired spatial arrangement and planning and linkage between them. Performed actions are limited to preservation and maintenance and restoration of a few historical constructions in Isfahan.

Gohardoustb a Faculty of Geography, University of Marburg, 35032 Marburg, Germany b Desert Division, Research Institute of Forests and Rangelands, Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), 13165-116 Tehran, Iran ARTICLE INFO ABSTRACT Keywords: Sand dune movement causes severe damage to infrastructure and rural settlements in Iran every year. Iran, sand dunes Identifying active dunes and monitoring areas with migrating sand are important prerequisites for mitigating Dune mobility index these damages. With regard to this objective, the spatial variation of the wind energy environment based on the Wind energy sand drift potential (DP) was calculated from 204 meteorological stations. Three commonly used dune activity Active dune models – the Lancaster mobility index (1988), the Tsoar mobility index (2005), and the index developed by Yizhaq et al. (2009) – were used for the evaluation of Iran’s sand dune activity. The analysis of the indices showed that the dune activity was characterized by great spatial variation across Iran’s deserts. All three models identified fully active dunes in the Sistan plain, the whole of the Lut desert, as well as in the ZirkuhQaienand Deyhook regions, while the dunes in the northern part of Rig Boland, Booshroyeh and in the Neyshabor du- nefields were categorized as stabilized dunes. For other dunes, the models show a less unified activity classifi- cation, with the Lancaster and Yizhaq models having more similar results while the Tsoar model stands more apart.

For further information contact the UOW Library: [email protected] Jurassic to cenozoic tectonics of the zagros orogen in northwestern Iran Abstract The Zagros Mountains of Iran formed by continental collision from closure of the Neo-Tethyan Ocean. The Zagros Orogen underlying the mountain range reflects a much longer history with the Pan-African basement and Phanerozoic successions. New mapping, radiometric ages, and stratigraphic analyses have enabled advances in our understanding of the Jurassic to Cenozoic tectonic history. The northwestern Zagros Orogen consists of three belts: (1) the Zagros Fold and Thrust Belt, divided into the outer Zagros Simply Folded Belt and the inner High Zagros Belt; (2) the Zagros Suture Zone including radiolarite, ophiolite, and Bisotun limestone thrust sheets; and (3) the Sanandaj-Sirjan Zone, which contains abundant metamorphic rocks. Late Cretaceous ophiolites of the Kermanshah region are part of the outer ophiolite belt of the Zagros Orogen and have formed in passive margin and supra-subduction zone settings. Major events include early Mesozoic rifting, Jurassic subduction followed by a more cryptic interval of subduction in the Cretaceous, multiple ophiolite emplacement on the Arabian margin in the Late Cretaceous to Eocene, and collision of central Iran and the Arabian margin in the Oligocene with final closure of the shallow Tethyan seaway in the mid-Miocene.

  • Agroclimatic Zones Map of Iran Explanatory Notes
AGROCLIMATIC ZONES MAP OF IRAN EXPLANATORY NOTES E. De Pauw1, A. Ghaffari2, V. Ghasemi3 1 Agroclimatologist/ Research Project Manager, International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), Aleppo Syria 2 Director-General, Drylands Agricultural Research Institute (DARI), Maragheh, Iran 3 Head of GIS/RS Department, Soil and Water Research Institute (SWRI), Tehran, Iran INTRODUCTION The agroclimatic zones map of Iran has been produced to as one of the outputs of the joint DARI-ICARDA project “Agroecological Zoning of Iran”. The objective of this project is to develop an agroecological zones framework for targeting germplasm to specific environments, formulating land use and land management recommendations, and assisting development planning. In view of the very diverse climates in this part of Iran, an agroclimatic zones map is of vital importance to achieve this objective. METHODOLOGY Spatial interpolation A database was established of point climatic data covering monthly averages of precipitation and temperature for the main stations in Iran, covering the period 1973-1998 (Appendix 1, Tables 2-3). These quality-controlled data were obtained from the Organization of Meteorology, based in Tehran. From Iran 126 stations were accepted with a precipitation record length of at least 20 years, and 590 stations with a temperature record length of at least 5 years. The database also included some precipitation and temperature data from neighboring countries, leading to a total database of 244 precipitation stations and 627 temperature stations. The ‘thin-plate smoothing spline’ method of Hutchinson (1995), as implemented in the ANUSPLIN software (Hutchinson, 2000), was used to convert this point database into ‘climate surfaces’.
