PAKS II PROJECT TO BOOST ECONOMIC GROWTH The construction of two new units for the Paks Nuclear Power Plant is the project of the century. The project may create a significant number of jobs at a number of manufacturing and service companies, as well as in education through the required training of fresh professional graduates, thereby providing a livelihood for several tens of thousands of people. The identification of potential domestic suppliers and subcontractors has begun. Nearly 400 companies have come forward so far in order to contribute to the up to 40% proportion of domestic suppliers. More than three-quarters of the population support the already operational nuclear power plant, and the managers of the identified domestic companies unanimously support the establishment of the new units. Operating with the support of more than three-quarters of the population, the Paks Nuclear Power Plant is the most marketable electricity generator in Hungary today, accounts for more than half the electricity generated in Hungary, and helps keep the price of electricity at an affordable level. At the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, the quantity of electricity generated since its connection to the grid has recently reached 400 TWh, which corresponds to the electricity used by the whole Hungarian population over a period of 35 years. The electricity generated at the nuclear power plant is by far the cheapest in Hungary, and this will remain so with the units to be newly constructed. ‘In connection with the establishment of the new units, the Russian party has undertaken to guarantee local content of up to 40%,’ said Mrs Lászlóné Németh, Minister for National Development. -

Association Européenne pour le Fleurissement et le Paysage / Aisbl Entente Florale Europe 2013 – background and results The European Association for Flowers and Landscape -AEFP The Association Europeenne pour le Fleurissement et le Paysage (AEFP) - the European Association for Flowers and Landscape is an international, non-profit association. The overall aim of the Association today is the social and cultural development and enhancement of the quality of life of urban dwellers, primarily through landscape development and horticulture. To support its aims, the Association organises an international competition known as Entente Florale Europe in order to promote a greener and more pleasant environment in European towns and villages and to establish international contacts among the participants. Entente Florale Europe - The Competition The competition Entente Florale Europe is the principal means through which the AEFP achieves its aims. In the year 2013, eleven member countries have participated giving a total of 8 villages and 10 towns/cities to the competition. An international jury consisting of 11 members carried out an ‘in situ’ assessment of the candidate town/city and village. Criteria The international jury – each member country providing a representative- assesses the candidate towns and villages according to criteria based on the following considerations: Quality of landscape and vegetation: seasonal and permanent planting of flowers, trees, shrubs; respect for landscape and landscape policies; promotion of biodiversity and ecologically friendly maintenance and management. Quality of natural and built environments including waste management, water management, heritage, quality of streets and buildings and cleanliness. Participation and cooperation by local bodies and organisations. Contribution and role of local statutory authorities. -

The measured quantities of reed and periphyton and the results of the chemical analysis provide data to the exploration and assessment of the littoral zone, especially the periphyton settled on reeds, playing an important role in the water quality regulation of the lake. The quantities of nitrogen and phosphorus measured in periphyton in the case of the Bay of Keszthely are particularly remarkable: 2.4 gN.nf2 and 0.25 gP.m"2 of reed stands. Considering the 480 hectare reed stand of the bay, the quantity of nitrogen and phosphorus is estimated at 8000 kg N and 900 kg P. Introduction ; . During the decades of the species’ presence in the Carpathian Basin, a remarkable fluctuation was detected in its abundance and flight phenology. We analysed long term light trap records and meteorological data to identify the possible factors behind these fluctuations. This study presents an overview of the areal dispersion and the rate of accumulation and flight phenology of this invasive pest, from its first Hungarian mass occurrence until the present, focusing on the influence of climatic factors on the Hungarian distribution of H. armigera. According to our estimation, this pest occupied 94% of the area of Hungary within eight years. There were significant differences in pest pressure by regions, corroborated by the average number of trapped specimens and the regression coefficients. Fluctuations of specimen numbers in the different years are clearly visible in the flight phenology diagrams, which depend on the rate of the growing abundance. The results indicate that abiotic elements may also play a significant role in the areal dispersion of this important invasive insect.
